This document analyzes accident scenarios in Indian coal mines from 1992-2016. It provides data on the number of fatal and serious accidents each year, as well as trends in rates of death and serious injury per thousand employees, per million tons of coal produced, and per 300,000 man shifts worked. The rates of fatalities and serious injuries have declined overall from 1990 levels, but accidents remain a significant issue, with over 100 deaths and serious injuries reported in Indian coal mines in 2015-2016 alone.
