Stacks are a new feature in Mac OS X Leopard that allow folders to be accessed directly from the Dock. Dragging a folder to the right side of the Dock turns it into a stack. Clicking a stack will display its contents in a fan or grid. The Downloads stack automatically collects all internet downloads and notifies the user when a download is complete by bouncing in the Dock.

When a file finishes downloading, the Download stack notifies you by bouncing and puts the newest file right on top, so you can easily find it.
