The Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU) was founded in 1970 and is affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions. It is one of the largest trade unions in India, with a strong presence in Tripura and West Bengal. CITU organizes various industrial federations, including plantation, steel, transport, coal, construction, road transport, electricity, and anganwadi workers. In 2019, CITU began celebrating 100 years of workers' struggles in India and 50 years of fighting for workers' unity. More recently, CITU has demanded a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry into the Hathras gang rape case and exemplary punishment. Countrywide general strikes organized by CITU in 2018 and 2019 saw participation
