Social media can be used as powerful public health communication tools for raising awareness, connecting and engaging with your stakeholders, building and sustaining relationships, and encouraging calls to action. Yet, whether you’re a total newbie or a social media guru looking to step up your game, nothing can defeat your efforts more than winging it without a plan.
In this webinar, the first session in the latest 21st Century New Media Series from CALPACT and CHL at UC Berkeley's School of Public Health, JC De Vera of the Greenlining Institute and Rae Roca-Pickett of the Young Invincibles share how they’ve built a social media strategy that works, is integrated with their overall communications plan, and helps them to create meaningful impact with the communities they serve.

This presentation was prepared for a lecture at the Queensland University of Technology in 2015, as a guide to students looking to take on an internship to compliment their study and explore career choices. This presentation includes information about our company, the advantages of an internship for students, the business advantage, how to make your resume look great for an internship and a quick guide to impressing us in the interview process. It also covers some examples of what interns work on at Inspire, and what real interns have said after completing their course with us.

IwasBornCurious.
In my mind, every mystery had an answer even if I had to think about it for
hoursbeforeIknewwhatthatanswerwas.Mycuriosityandinsa ablethirstfor
answers was what brought about my love for media in almost every form. As a
five year old my dad - whose love for reading is only surpassed by mine - read
Shakespeare to us, and I remember asking why Macbeth wanted so badly to be
king. I wondered, "Why was his wife so wicked?" And the funniest ques on an
Africanchildcouldask,"Whatexactlyarefairies?”
My curiosity led to greater interest in the world around me and subsequently I
startedtoexpressmythoughtsand ponderingsinwri ngsand essays.ThisIdid

I did a lot more wri ng and research into various topics that interested me for
years a erwards. When the internet eventually arrived in Nigeria, it opened up
greater opportuni es to access the informa on (and answers) I was constantly
seeking. I would go online and read up stories and rewrite them to fit my
everyday life. This was interrupted by my studies in Babcock University, where I

my last three years there - from wri ng plays, to helping in the design of

decision to pursue my dream in media communica ons, specializing in digital
media. I got my first job a er a pitch I made at a dinner event at my employer's
home. I proposed that I could increase the social media presence of his church
and business by 500% (this was in 2008, when very few organiza ons knew
what to do with Facebook!) Thankfully he was a visionary, and not only lent me

Management and Publicity for Praise Outreach Community Centre, Alex O

In the pursuit of knowledge to be er myself in my chosen field, I a ended
Orange Academy in 2012 for their Break Away design (BAD) program for three
months. There, I learned the basic essence of design and the use of design
applica ons like Coreldraw and the Adobe Design Suite. Orange Academy is a
renowned Brand training school in Africa. This has helped hone my skills in
design and crea ve concept development, which has in turn allowed me to
excelinmyfield.
My diverse skillsets gave me an edge and because of it I started with Praise
Outreach Community Center as a Social media manager and subsequently
became the Church Office Administrator and Human Resource Manager. I am
presently the Head of Communica ons and Office Manager for the
organisa on.
I am self-mo vated and driven by passion for excellence. I have hence go en
