Howard Schultz had a successful career rising through the ranks to become the CEO of Starbucks. He graduated from college on a football scholarship and worked in sales and marketing. He saw an opportunity to start his own coffee chain after visiting Milan, eventually purchasing Starbucks in 1987. Under his leadership, Starbucks grew from less than 10 stores to over 17,600 globally. Schultz integrated a philosophy of "4-Way Wins" focusing on community, partnerships, employee welfare, and economic success. He drew from his working-class upbringing and believes in treating employees like family by providing health insurance and embracing diversity. Schultz innovated by positioning Starbucks as a community gathering place and taking a active role in civic responsibility.
