Landon Carter, a popular student, is forced to participate in community service activities after a prank goes wrong and puts another student in the hospital. One of these activities is starring in the school play. He is paired with Jamie Sullivan, the reverend's daughter who has nothing in common with Landon. When Landon asks Jamie for help with his lines, they grow closer than expected. However, a secret is revealed that threatens their new relationship.
