Coffee beans undergo several stages before becoming the roasted brown beans we use to make coffee. First, the outer skin is removed, then the beans are dried to become green. To roast coffee at home, a heat source between 370-540°F is needed to heat the beans in continuous motion to prevent scorching, along with proper ventilation and quick cooling. Roasting with a stovetop involves heating the roaster or pan, stirring the beans constantly for 4-7 minutes until cracking sounds occur and smoke appears, then checking color and quickly cooling once the desired color is reached.
