As the automotive industry continues its steady increase in the utilisation of electrical components and functions, so too is it faced with the challenge of requiring increasing amounts of processing power within its embedded systems. After continued increases, the clock rates are stagnating so that single-core processors are no longer adequate to satisfy many of the next generation embedded system requirements. The basis technology for future embedded systems must therefore be multi- and many-core processors.
Multi-core processors are superior to their single-core predecessor in calculation power and energy efficiency. However, to apply multi-core processors to systems in the embedded domain software developers, integrators and system architects are faced with various new challenges regarding system complexity and controllability. Furthermore, the new technology has an impact on the whole development process and impacts all development phases alike.
IQPC’s Second International Conference “Automotive Embedded Multi-Core Systems” will bring together stakeholders from along the value chain to ensure maximum knowledge transfer and professional exchange. During a full three day programme, you will meet international experts from OEMs, suppliers, and academia to discuss, hear and learn about their experiences and challenges with multi-core design, migration and optimisation.

Photograms are early photographic images created without a camera by placing objects directly onto light-sensitive material and exposing it to light. Henry Fox Talbot, who coined the term "photogenic drawings", was an early pioneer of the technique in the 1830s. In the 20th century, artist Man Ray experimented extensively with photograms, which he called "rayographs", using unconventional exposures and object placements to create surreal images. His rayographs were not fully appreciated during his life but are now considered masterworks of the photogram technique.

The Environmental Responsible Aviation (ERA) Project aims to select promising aircraft concepts and technologies by 2025 to simultaneously reduce fuel burn, noise, and emissions. Technologies will be matured from TRL 3 to 5/6 through integrated systems research. Risk management is challenging due to the technical nature of technology development projects and independent sub-projects. ERA's risk management process developed a contribution factor based on expert input to assess each technology's potential to meet ERA goals, which improves identification of risks to project success compared to traditional approaches.

The document proposes an international agenda called "+atlantic" to foster innovation and sustainable development related to the Atlantic Ocean. It focuses on four technology areas: observation systems, subsea technologies, surface technologies, and port technologies. The agenda would be implemented through regional poles in Portugal, Germany, Brazil, and Colombia coordinated by the International Observatory - Global Policies for the Sustainable Exploration of the Atlantic (OIPG). Each pole would develop local agendas and attract investment in research to create jobs and opportunities in Atlantic regions.
1. O documento descreve uma agenda internacional para o desenvolvimento científico e tecnológico da região do Atlântico, com foco em quatro áreas: sistemas de observação, tecnologias submarinas, tecnologias de superfície e tecnologias portuárias.

The MADUSE project involved 23 engineers from 14 countries who worked over three years to develop advanced methodologies for dealing with uncertainty in structural dynamics engineering. They characterized uncertainty as either variability, which causes scatter over different realizations, or epistemic uncertainty from a lack of knowledge. Probabilistic models using probability density functions were used to treat variability, while possibilistic models using intervals or fuzzy numbers handled epistemic uncertainty. The project applied these methods to predict the effects of uncertainty on the dynamic response of a vehicle's windshield and chassis sub-frame. It proved the feasibility of numerical procedures for both aleatory and epistemic uncertainty in large finite element models with many uncertain parameters without excessive computational cost.

3. ANEXO: SUMÁRIO DA ESTRATÉGIA DE IMPLEMENTAÇÃO DO PROGRAMA A+, 2013-2014
47
Background Note
A+ aims to build capacity through industrial research and expert competence building with a main
focus on industrial aeronautics, but with potential applications in other areas of complex engineering
systems, including Oil&Gas field services and urban systems. It is a project-based initiative, focused on
the North of Portugal, building capacity in CEIIA, and it is expected to foster and promote new
industry-science relationships, involving end-users, technology-based firms and academic research
groups. It considers three main parts, as follows:
Aeronautic engineering:
o Aeroacoustics – Promoting new skills for future engineering challenges
o New challenges for aeronautics design
Technologies and systems for oil field services – looking ahead
Urban mobility and sensors stimulating smarter citizens
1. Rationale
Thematic Areas under development through A+ have been identified with a focus on engineering
design and system thinking, building on trans-disciplinary research with a strong application-driven
orientation. At the short-term (i.e., during 2014), it is expected that the proposed Thematic Areas
open a few selected activities in both specialized and horizontal fields of application, to serve as the
initial phase for a medium-term program (2015-2020) with the following main goals:
Aeronautics 1: Fixed wing analysis and design
o Analysis and Optimization for weight, noise reduction and safety
o Stress Analysis and Stress Checking Activities for mechanisms and components
o Design for manufacturing: lean design methods under increased uncertainty
Aeronautics 2: Helicopter systems and rotary wing analysis and design
o Analysis and Optimization for weight reduction
o Noise reduction, Safety and reliability analysis
o Aero-acoustics optimization and cabin design
Oil&Gas: subsea technologies for oil exploration
o Analysis and optimization of specific technologies (drilling, ..)
o Safety and reliability analysis
Urban technologies and systems: sensors and information

These and other potential technological areas and related collaborative efforts are being
implemented in a way to allow the continuous monitoring and evaluation of the program, as well as
launching new areas of advanced training and industrial research (i.e., “application-driven), whenever
they rely in well documented technological principles and relevant problems to foster the
involvement of CEIIA and Portugal in emerging aeronautical and other areas.
This includes considering the management of technological innovation in terms of facilitating the
creation of new industries, by promoting strategic visions for public and private ventures and
developing the necessary skills to help developing collaborations for technological innovation at an
international level.
It should be noted that the Thematic Areas listed in this document are expected to serve as training
“test beds” for developing a specific advanced training action in 2014. The main goal is to identify
opportunities and main challenges towards the implementation of a specialization program, leading
to a “Master degree”, on “Technology Management Enterprise” aimed to train future industry experts
and leaders, offering the opportunity to study advanced engineered systems for industrial
applications.
Table 1 lists the Thematic Areas considered in the first year of the A+ initiative, together with the
main instruments already being used:

2. Industrial Research Projects
Most of the Thematic Areas considered in the first year of the A+ initiative are being implemented
through new industrially oriented research projects, involving new research fellowships at CEIIA and
joint research teams with academic researchers and external experts, as well as end-users.
Twelve projects were selected for the first year of the A+ initiative and Table 2 describes the teams
involved and the main instruments being used to foster the impact of each project. Potential
application to end-users is also identified.
