A Model To Compare The Degree Of Refactoring Opportunities Of Three Projects ...acijjournal
Refactoring is applied to the software artifacts so as to improve its internal structure, while preserving its
external behavior. Refactoring is an uncertain process and it is difficult to give some units for
measurement. The amount to refactoring that can be applied to the source-code depends upon the skills of
the developer. In this research, we have perceived refactoring as a quantified object on an ordinal scale of
measurement. We have a proposed a model for determining the degree of refactoring opportunities in the
given source-code. The model is applied on the three projects collected from a company. UML diagrams
are drawn for each project. The values for source-code metrics, that are useful in determining the quality of
code, are calculated for each UML of the projects. Based on the nominal values of metrics, each relevant
UML is represented on an ordinal scale. A machine learning tool, weka, is used to analyze the dataset,
imported in the form of arff file, produced by the three projects

A Methodology To Manage Victim Components Using Cbo Measureijseajournal
The current practices of software industry demands development of a software within time and budget
which is highly productive. The traditional approach of developing a software from scratch requires
considerable amount of effort. To overcome the drawback a reuse drive software development approach is
adopted. However there is a dire need for realizing effective software reuse. This paper presents several
measures of reusability and presents a methodology of reconfiguring the victim components. The CBO
measure helps in identifying the component to be reconfigured. The proposed strategy is simulated using
HR portal domain specific component system.

This paper presents a vision on how the software development process could be a fully unified mechanized
process by getting benefits from the advances of Natural Language Processing and Program Synthesis
fields. The process begins from requirements written in natural language that is translated to sentences in
logical form. A program synthesizer gets those sentences in logical form (the translator's outcome) and
generates a source code. Finally, a compiler produces ready-to-run software. To find out how the building
blocks of our proposed approach works, we conducted an exploratory research on the literature in the
fields of Requirements Engineering, Natural Language Processing, and Program Synthesis. Currently, this
approach is difficult to accomplish in a fully automatic way due to the ambiguities inherent in natural
language, the reasoning context of the software, and the program synthesizer limitations in generating a
source code from logic.

Method-Level Code Clone Modification using Refactoring Techniques for Clone M...acijjournal
Researchers focused on activities such as clone maintenance to assist the programmers. Refactoring is a well-known process to improve the maintainability of the software. Program refactoring is a technique to improve readability, structure, performance, abstraction, maintainability, or other characteristics by transforming a program. This paper contributes to a more unified approach for the phases of clone maintenance with a focus on clone modification. This approach uses the refactoring technique for clone modification. To detect the clones ‘CloneManager’ tool has been used. This approach is implemented as an enhancement to the existing tool CloneManager. The enhanced tool is tested with the open source projects and the results are compared with the performance of other three existing tools.

The framework studio is implemented using swings which are integrated onto the Net Beans IDE which help in faster generation of the source code.

4. Research goal, objective & questions
Goal: understand the refactoring habits of app developers and how they differ
from traditional system developers
Objective: Better inform/educate app developers on the types of rework they
would face; this would lead to better preparedness during app design and
implementation
Research Questions:
● What are the most common refactoring operations Android app developers
apply on their source code elements?
● What are the reasons that motivate Android developers to refactor their
source code?
5. Methodology
Projects: 1,028
Avg. commits per app: 118.2
Avg. developers per app: 3.8
Avg. refactoring commits per app: 14.9
Avg. refactoring operations per app: 47.8
Avg. refactoring developers per app: 1.4
Tools/Technologies:
Refactoring detection: RefactoringMiner
Topic Modeling: latent Dirichlet allocation
(LDA); Python’s gensim library
6. RQ1: Most common refactoring operations
Elements of UI based datatypes tend to undergo more

Popularity of refactorings in traditional Java systems
Demonstrates the need to study Android apps
separately from traditional systems
7. RQ2: Reasons for code refactoring
LDA based analysis of refactoring commit messages to indicate why app
developers refactor their code
Other observations:
● Developers knowingly admit that the operations they performed are refactoring activities
Example: “Refactored seralize/deserialize (plain objects): moved to Reference…” when performing an Extract and Move Method
operation
