Christopher M. Beaver
Project Safety Supervisor
Summary
Chris is currently assigned to the Rocky Mountain Regional Office, serving
as a Project Safety Supervisor. For the past three years Chris has overseen
the construction safety for heavy civil, highway, transit, and heavy rail
(BNSF and UPRR) improvements, including aspects of environmental
protection and compliance. His responsibilities include the administration,
coordination, and enforcement of Ames’ company-wide safety and loss
control program.
With firsthand experience in many aspects of construction, Chris
understands the specific hazards associated with heavy civil construction,
and the mitigation measures needed to ensure the safety of the personnel
performing those activities. Chris’s duties include working closely with the
field supervision and craft workers at the project site to identify potentially
hazardous conditions and recommend and implement appropriate
procedures to mitigate the condition and comply with OSHA, MSHA, DOT,
FRA, Owner, State, and local regulations, as well as Ames’ corporate or
site-specific safety program requirements.
Chris enforces site-specific safety and health programs, and conducts
employee safety orientation and task training sessions to firmly establish
Ames’ commitment to safety in the work practices of every employee.
Specific tasks include:
Conducting safety training. Site-specific, fall protection, confined space,
excavation, forklift, aerial lift, electrical hazards, flagging, BNSF/UPRR, new
hire, Equal Employment Opportunity, and fire extinguisher inspection and
use.
Safety Plan Development and Implementation. Chris develops task-specific Job
Safety Analyses (JSAs) for each project, and enhances existing JSAs to
improve overall project safety performance. Routinely performs safety
audits of crew practices to build a project culture that is committed to safety
in every task undertaken.
Completing safety and environmental inspections. Identifying issues/potential
hazards to the environment, construction workers, and general public.
Developing corrective action plans to insure compliance with all applicable
safety, health, and environmental regulations including BNSF, DOT, FRA,
EPA, HAZMAT, OSHA, and UPRR.
Injury and Incident Investigations. Chris leads or participates in the
investigation of every incident on the site to identify and correct any
inadequate processes or inappropriate work practices or behaviors that
contributed to the incident.

Relevant Experience
Chris’s project experience since joining Ames has included assignment as the on-site safety supervisor or providing employee
training on the following projects:
Safety Supervisor/Trainer, Dickinson State Avenue Project, $30 million, Dickinson, North Dakota. Project to reconstruct
and build a new bridge over BNSF mainline. Scope involves demolition, utility relocation and installation, all aspects of
construction, including bridges, earthwork and drainage, paving (concrete and asphalt), electrical and ITS installation, MSE
walls, boring (jack and bore), and work with BNSF. Chris developed and implemented the Safety And Health Environmental
Action Plan (SHEAP), identifying routes to emergency clinics and hospitals, setting up the project office, providing task specific
JSAs and training to address identified project hazards, conducted Site Specific and BNSF training, conducts safety audits,
and weekly safety topics for crews on the project. Job titles for the project include Safety Manager, Public Information (PI),
Traffic Control Coordinator, Administration, and Union support.
Safety Supervisor/Trainer, Gold Line and Commuter Rail Maintenance Facility, Eagle Public-Private Partnership, $1.4
billion, RTD FastTracks Program, Denver, Colorado. Holds full responsibility for project safety practices for 14 mile
commuter rail line being built adjacent to active BNSF mainline. Provides site- and task-specific safety training for all aspects
of the project, including excavation safety, fall protection, hazardous materials, air monitoring for working in confined space,
and monitors activities of all crews performing hazardous tasks. The newest training module, working around high power lines,
is designed to prepare workers for the activation of the 25,000V overhead catenary power system. Chris conducts 14 to 16
safety audits each month to confirm adherence to safety protocols and JSAs. He calibrates and maintains safety equipment
as needed (personal air monitors). Chris also routinely deals with the public through project safety seminars designed to
educate and inform the local communities of the measures taken to maintain safe conditions for workers and the public, and to
address any issues that result from construction activities.
Site Safety Supervisor, UPRR Strauss Intermodal Facility, $63 million, Santa Maria, New Mexico. Managed safety for
the final stages of construction and project close out. Chris routinely performed safety audits of joint venture and
subcontractors crews, provided JSA training as needed, and participated in monthly “all hands” meetings to reinforce the team
focus on the safe performance of all project activities.
Project Startup Site Safety Supervisor, UPRR Mesquite Terminal Expansion, $83 million, Mesquite, Texas. This project
is adding two new working tracks and reconstructing 4 existing tracks, expanding site track and parking capacity, and adding a
hostler fueling facility, new maintenance and administrative office buildings, and a crane maintenance pad. Auto unloading
track capacity will be expanded, and the auto lead track extended approximately 2 miles. Chris prepared the prework safety
elements for this project, identifying routes to emergency clinics and hospitals, setting up the project offices, arranging for
safety equipment, and early training of new employees for working around the active railroad.
Site Safety Supervisor, I-70 Tower to Colfax Avenue Reconstruction, $27 million, Aurora, Colorado. Project is replacing
two bridges over the UPRR mainline and reconstructing roadway and widening the shoulders on I-70 east of Denver. Major
hazards include working safely around the active UPRR tracks, with up to 24 train movements each day and diverting I-70
traffic into a single lane in each direction, running head to head with barrier separation. Chris developed and implemented the
health and safety plan as described above, providing task specific JSAs and training to address identified project hazards.
Site Safety Supervisor, BNSF Auto Big Lift Facility, $6.9 million, Denver, Colorado. Project constructed new track
embankment, drainage facilities, grade crossings, and auto unloading facilities. Yard improvements included lot paving,
lighting/electrical, striping, and fencing. Chris instituted the project safety plan, provided training as needed, and audited
project activities.
Site Safety Supervisor, US 36 Managed Lane/BRT Projects (Phase 1 and 2), $420 million, Colorado. Project to
reconstruct and widen the existing US36 corridor, adding a tolled HOV express lane between Denver to Boulder, on one of the
most congested highway corridors in the state. Scope included all aspects of construction, including bridges, earthwork and
drainage, paving, electrical and ITS installation, and work the BNSF mainline.

Site Safety Supervisor, UPRR Intermodal Facility, $8.4 million, Denver, Colorado. The construction of the new commuter
rail line to Denver International Airport prompted this project to realign an existing intermodal facility to accommodate the new
line built directly adjacent to the property. Scope involved demolition, utility relocation and installation, and reconstruction of
the Gate Building, portal, and driver’s access structures, and one new rail line installed to accommodate the gate relocation.
Work was completed over nine phases of construction to accommodate uninterrupted yard operations 24 hours per day, 7
days/week.
