This document analyzes 9 frames from a zombie comedy film to show how it breaks conventions of the horror genre through its use of bright colors, comedic elements, and unconventional camera angles. Several shots depict zombies in a comedic way, such as a bride falling over or people in a three-legged race. Other shots combine horror elements like blood and gore with comedy, like a zombie attacking a preacher or people running from zombies. The analysis demonstrates how the film establishes a tone of comedy while still including graphic horror elements.
1. 9 Frame analysis of composition
The opening sequence
begins with a long shot of a
man dressed in convict
clothes throwing a police
guard off a watchtower. The
zombie is depicted as a
criminal, showing the evil
mentality of the undead. The
fact that the movie is like a
comedy as well is shown
through the use of very bright
colors and breaks the
conventions of a normal
horror film.
This is a medium close up
showing a zombie with blood
poring out of his mouth. This
unlike the first shot follows
the conventions of a horror
with all the blood and gore.
The normal life that is
pictured in the background on
the highway can also go with
the theme of comedy and the
element of this
This, again, is another way in
which the film has broken
away from the conventions.
This is because this shot
shows the woman wearing
bright clothes in a bright
background. The shot angle
is also different as you would
expect a chaceseen to be
seen from a high angle to
show danger and that they
are bearing down on her but
this is a low camera angle,
which is very uncommon.
2. 9 Frame analysis of composition
This is a long shot showing
zombies attacking a preacher
with a sigh with the ironic say
of ‘the end is near’. Again the
shot is showing bright
backgrounds with bright sky
and a lot of color.
This shot is more
stereotypical of a horror film.
It shows a long shot of a two
men running away from a
zombie. They are showing
the element of panic with a
burning car in the
background. Unlike the others
the comic seen isn’t shown
here and are pretty horrific.
This shot is a long shot
showing the stereotypical
comical scene of the bride
falling over but with the gore
of her being a zombie, which
shows the theme of this film
really well.
This mediums shot again
shows the comical element of
the movie with the naked
women in the background
with the nipple tassels on and
the money in her pants. The
faces of the men being
chased are of fear but also
have funny way in them,
especially the guy in the blue
shirt at the side.
3. 9 Frame analysis of composition
This again shows a sick
humor in the medium long
shot, which has the people in
the three-legged race.
The comical theme of this
movie is again shown in this
medium shot as there is a skit
of Scarface and the running
zombie in the background
running for the man in the suit
