Het ontstaan van de Koude Oorlog (1917-1947)
De Sovjet-Unie en Amerika stonden eigelijk al tegenover elkaar vanaf de bolsjewistische machtsgreep in Rusland eind 1917. Na de nederlaag van nazi-Duitsland in 1945 veranderde dat smeulende Oost-Westconflict al snel in een heuse Koude Oorlog. Eerst kreeg die Europa in haar grip en daarna bijna de hele wereld.
Prof.dr. Jacco Pekelder is docent aan de Universiteit Utrecht en in 2013-2014 gasthoogleraar aan de Universität des Saarlandes in Saarbrücken. Hij studeerde geschiedenis in Utrecht en is gespecialiseerd in politiek en historie van Duitsland, en in de geschiedenis van terrorisme. Zijn nieuwste boek, Nieuw nabuurschap: Nederland en Duitsland na de val van de Muur, verschijnt voorjaar 2014.
