This document exposes and debunks 5 common myths about hearing aids. Myth #1 is that hearing aids are not effective, but a study found they significantly improved speech recognition and reduced communication problems. Myth #2 is that hearing aids are big and bulky, but they now come in various small, nearly invisible sizes. Myth #3 is that hearing aids are too expensive, but like other electronics, prices vary depending on needs and features. Myth #4 is that hearing aids can be bought online more cheaply, but proper fitting requires professional programming based on an individual's hearing loss. Myth #5 is that hearing aids are uncomfortable and hard to use, but digital aids are designed for maximum ease of use and some can be controlled
The document describes a study that investigated the effectiveness of lemon grass (Cymbopogon citratus) as a natural insect repellent. The study extracted lemon grass's natural oils and components using steam distillation. It then observed two candies, one treated with the lemon grass extract and one without, when exposed to ants. Within 14 minutes, ants approached the untreated candy but ignored the candy treated with lemon grass extract. The results showed that lemon grass is an effective natural insect repellent due to components like citral and citronella that have repellent properties.

Major defenses of Gram-negative bacteria against β-lactam antibiotics are β-lactamase enzymes. These enzymes break the β-lactam ring, deactivating antibiotics. β-lactamases have co-evolved with β-lactam antibiotics and are classified based on amino acid sequence and mechanism. Classes A, C, and D use serine residues while class B uses zinc ions. Newer broad and expanded-spectrum β-lactamases like TEM, SHV, and CTX-M have emerged, hydrolyzing penicillins and later-generation cephalosporins. The document discusses frontal lobe epilepsy, including its anatomy and functions, aetiology, diagnosis, and treatment. It covers the different classifications of frontal lobe seizures based on their functional anatomy and manifestations. Some key seizure types mentioned are Rolandic epilepsy, which involves characteristic "Jacksonian march" seizures, and ventromedial and dorsolateral prefrontal seizures, which present with different behavioral and autonomic symptoms. Evaluation involves neuroimaging like MRI and EEG to localize the seizure focus. Treatment options include medications, surgery, diet, and management of impairments.
Down syndrome is a genetic condition caused by trisomy of chromosome 21. It occurs in about 1 in 700 live births. Clinical features include intellectual disability, characteristic facial features such as a flat face, upward slanted eyes, and a protruding tongue. Individuals with Down syndrome also have an increased risk of certain medical conditions such as congenital heart defects and thyroid problems. Prenatal screening and diagnostic tests can identify Down syndrome in utero. Lifelong medical care is important to monitor development, screen for associated conditions, and support quality of life.
Growing antimicrobial resistance – meeting the challengesNeha Sharma
Growing antimicrobial resistance poses a serious threat as many bacteria are now resistant to existing antibiotics. This could lead to a "post-antibiotic era" with high mortality from infectious diseases. Rational antibiotic use at all levels is needed to slow resistance. Prompt diagnosis and targeted treatment are important, as is continuing research to develop new antibiotics. Improving hygiene, immunization rates, and antibiotic stewardship can help address this looming crisis.

Hear-It Key Facts on hearing_final2020_0 (1).pptxfaheem411362
Hearing loss is a significant problem affecting approximately 1 in 10 people. It increases substantially with age, with over 30% of those over 65 experiencing some degree of hearing loss. Untreated hearing loss can negatively impact quality of life, social engagement, employment opportunities, and cognitive abilities. It poses substantial costs to societies, with annual costs of untreated hearing loss in the EU estimated at 185 billion euros. Treatment of hearing loss through the use of hearing aids has been shown to help address many of the negative impacts by improving quality of life, reducing social isolation and cognitive decline, and eliminating increased risks of other health issues associated with untreated hearing loss.
This document analyzes policies surrounding access to cochlear implants through insurance coverage. It discusses ambiguities in corporate policies and judicial rulings regarding distribution of resources. Hearing loss is increasing globally due to environmental factors and aging. While cochlear implants can help, the high cost poses barriers. Minorities tend to have less coverage and income to afford implants. The document calls for solutions to improve access by influencing costs and quality of care.
Sounding off on hearing aids expert advice from the federal trade commissionRobin Hardin
The Federal Trade Commission recommends that the over 35 million Americans with impaired hearing seek advice from a qualified hearing specialist like an otolaryngologist, audiologist, or hearing aid dispenser when choosing a hearing device. An otolaryngologist is a disease specialist who does not typically fit hearing aids. Hearing aid dispensers' qualifications vary by state and they may or may not be hearing experts. An audiologist has a Masters degree and potentially a doctorate, can perform hearing tests and fit hearing aids, and provides expert hearing loss advice on beneficial accessories. The FTC advises trusting a qualified hearing specialist over a so-called expert for hearing loss help.

Hearing loss is the inability to hear sound in one or both ears, and can be partial or complete. It commonly develops gradually over time due to aging or exposure to loud noises. The most typical causes of hearing loss include aging, noise exposure, head injuries, viruses, genetics, and ototoxicity. Living with hearing loss can be difficult, but modern hearing aids are discreet and can help improve hearing. Seeking treatment from an ENT specialist like Dr. Simple Bhadania at ACE ENT Hospital can provide world-class care for hearing loss.
This document provides information and tips for coping with adult-onset hearing loss. It discusses common symptoms of hearing loss and types of hearing loss. It emphasizes the importance of getting evaluated and treated for hearing loss to avoid negative health impacts like dementia. The document provides communication tips for individuals with hearing loss and their friends/family. It also discusses Americans with Disabilities Act protections and available hearing technologies like hearing aids and loops.
The document discusses ear infections in children and presents alternatives to antibiotic and surgical treatment. It argues that ear infections are often caused by interference in the nervous system from spinal misalignments called subluxations. Chiropractic care aims to detect and correct subluxations, allowing the body to heal itself without drugs or surgery. Research shows children under chiropractic care get sick less often and have fewer ear infections than those only receiving medical treatment.

11. Reason # 7: Underlying Medical
Conditions
Hearing loss is sometimes the symptom of a more serious, underlying medical condition, such
as:
• Cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes
• Otosclerosis - the hardening of the middle ear bones
• Ménière's disease - a disorder of the inner ear affecting hearing and balance
• Traumatic injuries
• Infections, earwax buildup, or blockages from foreign objects
• Tumors
• Medications - there are more than 200 medications and chemicals that are known to cause
hearing and balance problems

12. Reason # 8: Increased Risk of Falls
Johns Hopkins University research suggests that
people with a 25-decibel hearing loss, classified as
mild, were almost three times more likely to have a
history of falling. And for every additional 10-decibels
of hearing loss, the chances of falling increased by 1.4
times.
