Hear-It Key Facts on hearing_final2020_0 (1).pptxfaheem411362
Hearing loss is a significant problem affecting approximately 1 in 10 people. It increases substantially with age, with over 30% of those over 65 experiencing some degree of hearing loss. Untreated hearing loss can negatively impact quality of life, social engagement, employment opportunities, and cognitive abilities. It poses substantial costs to societies, with annual costs of untreated hearing loss in the EU estimated at 185 billion euros. Treatment of hearing loss through the use of hearing aids has been shown to help address many of the negative impacts by improving quality of life, reducing social isolation and cognitive decline, and eliminating increased risks of other health issues associated with untreated hearing loss.
Sounding off on hearing aids expert advice from the federal trade commissionRobin Hardin
The Federal Trade Commission recommends that the over 35 million Americans with impaired hearing seek advice from a qualified hearing specialist like an otolaryngologist, audiologist, or hearing aid dispenser when choosing a hearing device. An otolaryngologist is a disease specialist who does not typically fit hearing aids. Hearing aid dispensers' qualifications vary by state and they may or may not be hearing experts. An audiologist has a Masters degree and potentially a doctorate, can perform hearing tests and fit hearing aids, and provides expert hearing loss advice on beneficial accessories. The FTC advises trusting a qualified hearing specialist over a so-called expert for hearing loss help.

This document analyzes policies surrounding access to cochlear implants through insurance coverage. It discusses ambiguities in corporate policies and judicial rulings regarding distribution of resources. Hearing loss is increasing globally due to environmental factors and aging. While cochlear implants can help, the high cost poses barriers. Minorities tend to have less coverage and income to afford implants. The document calls for solutions to improve access by influencing costs and quality of care.

Harmony Hearing Centers of America recommends using hearing protection when watching fireworks displays on July 4th. Fireworks can reach decibel levels of 120-140 dB, which is louder than a military jet. The organization recommends sitting at least 500 feet from the launch area and bringing earplugs for all family members. Ear protection is especially important for children, who experience louder sounds due to their narrow ear canals. Using hearing protection can prevent short-term and long-term hearing damage from fireworks noise.
Hearing Aids May Reduce ER and Hospital Visits in Older AdultsOla_Gualtieri
Hearing aids are expensive. On top of costing thousands of dollars, insurance almost never covers them. These battery-powered electronic devices, however, may hold the key to decreasing seniors’ visits to the hospital or the emergency room.
Hearing loss is the inability to hear sound in one or both ears, and can be partial or complete. It commonly develops gradually over time due to aging or exposure to loud noises. The most typical causes of hearing loss include aging, noise exposure, head injuries, viruses, genetics, and ototoxicity. Living with hearing loss can be difficult, but modern hearing aids are discreet and can help improve hearing. Seeking treatment from an ENT specialist like Dr. Simple Bhadania at ACE ENT Hospital can provide world-class care for hearing loss.

This document provides information on various options for finding financial assistance to pay for hearing aids, which can be expensive. It discusses using private insurance, medical flexible spending accounts, Medicare/Medicaid (though coverage is limited), assistance from the VA for veterans, charitable organizations, vocational rehabilitation programs, financing options like CareCredit, and additional resources. The overall message is that while hearing aids have a high initial cost, the monthly cost is usually lower than a cable TV bill, and better hearing is worth the investment in building stronger relationships.
The document provides a list of questions for patients to ask their hearing specialist before purchasing hearing aids. It covers four major topics: hearing loss, styles and features of hearing aids, financing options, and operation and care of hearing aids. Some example questions are what type of hearing loss the patient has, which styles best suit their needs, total costs and insurance coverage, how to operate and care for the hearing aids, and follow up care. Having this list of questions will help the patient get the best hearing solution for their individual situation and needs.
This document exposes and debunks 5 common myths about hearing aids. Myth #1 is that hearing aids are not effective, but a study found they significantly improved speech recognition and reduced communication problems. Myth #2 is that hearing aids are big and bulky, but they now come in various small, nearly invisible sizes. Myth #3 is that hearing aids are too expensive, but like other electronics, prices vary depending on needs and features. Myth #4 is that hearing aids can be bought online more cheaply, but proper fitting requires professional programming based on an individual's hearing test. Myth #5 is that hearing aids are uncomfortable and hard to use, but digital aids are designed for ease of use and some can be controlled by

Most hearing loss is caused by genetic irregularities, with over 100 genes associated with hearing loss. Genetic hearing loss can affect the outer or inner ear, causing sensorineural, conductive, or mixed hearing loss. Some genetic conditions like Usher syndrome and Waardenburg syndrome cause hearing loss along with other symptoms. Genes related to hearing loss are usually recessive, so a child may have normal hearing if they receive a normal copy of the gene from one parent, even if both parents have hearing loss.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune DiseaseHealth Advances
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.
