In 1200 B.C., Greek settlers from the Aeolian and Ionian regions established communities along the coast of Anatolia. The Greeks settled heavily in the bays of Anatolia and began developing their own society that was distinct from their homeland. Over time, they evolved new Greek communities of their own along the Anatolian coast.
