Romero was named the American League Player of the Week for his performances over the previous two starts. He went 2-0 with a 1.69 ERA, striking out 12 batters over 14 innings while only allowing 5 hits. Most recently, he threw 8 shutout innings against the Rays and then 10 innings of one-run ball against the Orioles. With his strong performances, Romero improved his record to 10-9 with a 3.94 ERA and 138 strikeouts, putting him in position to have a breakout season in his third year in the majors. He is the first Blue Jays pitcher to win this award since Roy Halladay in 2010.
