6.) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
At first I and my group had some difficulty with trying to find a camera we could work from, we
started with a tiny flip camera as this was recommended to us because it was compatible to final
cut. However we found the frame and setting too small as it was very basic and when we wanted to
zoom in on our characters faces to show their emotion it became blurry and disorientating. We
decided as a group we then didn’t want this type of quality for our final film so we decided to swap
it, in the end the two different cameras we used where a Sony Handy Cam and an underwater digital
camera. The underwater camera was very easy to use, one of the reasons it being that we only used
it for one clip. The second Sony Handy camera was not as easy to use, as no one was familiar with
this camera as nobody had ever used it before. We had been told many times that some camera files
wouldn’t transfer easy to the Macs or would be in a different format to the ones that would work on
Final Cut, so we double checked some clips just in case we filmed the whole film and was not able to
edit it.
I think this project as a whole has helped me learnt and developed new
skills in a wide range of media programs; one example of this are social
networking sites like facebook. After discussing our preliminary task we
set up a facebook message as we thought this way our group would
benefit of having a place where we could range meetings, discuss ideas
and share content to do with our final film out of school freely. This
helped us stay on top of tasks and come up with clear focus plans for
every lesson homework or meeting that we arranged.
I have also learnt a lot about the website blogger in blogging my different coursework as I have
never used it before, but after I discovered and learned different skills like how to create a text post,
inserting photos, embedding links and adding videos I know I can run a blog with it being organised.
Although during this process of learning how to do new things I did find it very challenging. I also
improved in the use of editing with Windows Movie Maker and Final
Cut Pro. During our preliminary task me and my group where quite
unfortunate as we only has the software from school computers to edit
as no of us had the equipment at home, but were still very fortunate
that the school luckily have provided media students with Mac
computers therefore letting us to be able to make an official film. None
of us had any experience with final cut pro therefore was not useful
when it came down to editing this type of software as it didn’t give us a
fresh perspective of the methods we were using, this made us learn a whole lot more as they way
our two films have come out are very good for the time limit we had to learn and work with this
equipment.
I have also learnt the importance of capturing good quality footage through this project, as I have
never used a camera properly in my life this process has helped and taught me a lot with using
equipment like a tripod and a camera on the correct setting and audio professionally. I have also
used YouTube a lot through this process which I didn’t have any experience with uploading videos to

create my blog with, but now I can upload videos how I please and embed them onto my blog. It has
also been helpful for getting ideas and inspiration for the style of music we wanted our music to be
similar to, as it allowed me to research around the world to globally viewers so we got a better idea
of what we didn’t and did like when we created our final product.
