History of apparel industry in bnagladeshLiton Ahmed
Once the cloth of Bangladesh achieved worldwide fame specially muslim and jamdani cloth or our country was used as the luxurious garments of the royal figures in Europe and other countries. The British rulers in India didn’t develop our cloth industries at all. Rather they destroyed them and imported cloths from England.
Garment Industry Large-scale production of readymade garments (RMG) in organized factories is a relatively new phenomenon in Bangladesh. Until early sixties, individual tailors made garments as per specifications provided by individual customers who supplied the fabrics. The domestic market for readymade garment, excepting children wears and men's knit underwear (genji) was virtually non-existent in Bangladesh until the sixties.
Since the late 1970s, the RMG industry started developing in Bangladesh primarily as an export-oriented industry although; the domestic market for RMG has been increasing fast due to increase in personal disposable income and change in life style. The sector rapidly attained high importance in terms of employment, foreign exchange earnings and its contribution to GDP.
Most importantly, the growth of RMG sector produced a group of entrepreneurs who have created a strong private sector. Of these entrepreneurs, a sizeable number is female.
The hundred percent export-oriented RMG industry experienced phenomenal growth during the last 15 or so years. there were few export garment manufacturing units, which generated export earnings of hardly one million dollar. Some of these units were very small and produced garments for both domestic and export markets.
Reaz garment was first garments which was started as tailoring shops. It changed its name and become Reaz garments limited. Desh Garments was also the first hundred percent export-oriented company. It had about 120 operators including 3 women trained in South Korea, and with these trained workers it started its production in early 1980. Trexim Ltd. In 1980. Bangladeshi partners contributed 51% of the equity of the new firm, named Youngones Bangladesh. It exported its first consignment of padded and non-padded jackets to Sweden in December 1 At present there are about 5000 garment industries in the country and 75 percent of them are in Dhaka. The rest are in Chittagong and Khulna. These Industries have employed fifty lacks of people and 85 percent of them are illiterate rural women. About 76 percent of our export earning comes from this sector.
IN This PPT i include all the thiks like intro of the industry, major players of industry in india, growth , trends, fdi, market share in india , SWOT analysis ETC. This PPT is as on NOV10,2019.
Mythbusting: Competitiveness for the Indian Textile and Apparel IndustryDevangshu Dutta
There are many myths that are prevalent among the observers of the Indian textile and apparel industry. Here are a few illustrative ones that point to the need to seriously review of the way the Indian industry competes globally:
• Myth # 1 – To grow, India needs to do what China has done
• Myth # 2 - India is competitive because Indian labour is cheap
• Myth # 3 - Indian handiwork is irreplaceable
• Myth # 4 - Compared to China and other Asian giants, the fragmented supply base of Indian manufacturers is more flexible and can competitively fulfil small orders
• Myth # 5 - India needs to focus on its core strengths – for example, India has a sustainable advantage in cotton that will maintain its competitive edge
To break-through, Indian industry has to consistently apply the 4-D Framework
-> Define
-> Design
-> Develop
-> Deliver
All of these are seemingly simple, disparate steps. However, put together and carried out consistently over a period of time, they can move the Indian industry into a different orbit. Let’s imagine an old valve radio – the tuning knob had two parts – a large outer piece to select the major frequency, and a smaller inner part for fine-tuning closer to the frequency. Many of the industry’s moves are short-term oriented and many government policies are helping to fine-tune the frequency set by the industry. We would ask the industry to “Change the Frequency”, and select the path of higher value growth.

Global value chains (GVCs) trade could add more value to readymade garments (...KhandkerHabibAhmed
I am trying to convey that the global value chains (GVCs) trade can add more value to readymade garments (RMG) industries of a developing country like Bangladesh than the traditional trade. This is because the GVCs trade has many distinctive characteristics (and surmountable barriers) that can contribute to even more value addition than that of traditional trade. Target audience could include development professionals, anyone engaged in international trade, academia, policy professionals, textile and clothing business or simply anyone interest in the topic.

At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. 6. Testimonials from Industry Leaders
Mr. Tipu Munshi, MP
Minister, Ministry of Commerce
Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh
I congratulate Redcarpet365 Ltd for organizing 5th Edition of BIGTEX - Bangladesh Int’l Garment & Textile Machinery Expo, Bangladesh Int’l Fabric &
Yarn Expo, Bangladesh Int’l Printing, Packaging & Signage Expo and Bangladesh Int’l Dyes, Pigments & Chemicals Expo, from 07 to 10 November 2019
at International Convention City Bashundhara, Dhaka – Bangladesh. The back bone of Bangladesh’s economic growth is Apparel Sector and the
networking platforms like exhibitions are very important to uphold country’s growth, as well as economy.
Under the dynamic leadership of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is likely to set the apparel export target at $37.42 billion for
Fiscal Year 2019-20, with a 7.03% growth in export earnings. To achieve this target we need to focus more on value added, high-end apparel items rather
than basic, traditional products to make the business sustainable throughout the fierce competition in the global garment trade.
Keeping the above in concern, there is no alternative of Exhibitions on these sectors & I, heartily welcome all participants & stakeholders approach to
involve with BIGTEX as well as Bangladesh’s apparel industry for enhancing the manufacturing strength with new developed technology.
I am very glad to know that, Redcarpet365 Ltd is organizing 5th edition of BIGTEX, held from 07 to 10 November 2019 at ICCB,
Dhaka. Garment & Textile machinery, equipment, technology & accessories manufacturer, dealers & suppliers from home &
abroad have participated at this comprehensive exhibition. Targeting the entire Textile, Garment & Apparel industry of
Bangladesh, they have 3 more concurrent exhibitions Bangladesh Int’l Print, Pack & Sign Expo, Bangladesh Int’l Fabric & Yarn
Expo & Bangladesh Int’l Dyes, Pigments and Chemicals Expo.
Rising garment shipments to new and emerging Asian markets such as India, China, Korea and Japan have also contributed to the
higher earnings. But to keep this growth in continuation basis the Industry needs proper updated and more sustainable
Technology, Machinery, Raw Materials, Yarn, Fabric, Dyes & Chemicals in regular basis.
In this fearless competition in global apparel consumption, organizing this kind of exhibitions are very important for Bangladesh
to reach the certain goal and explore new markets and diversify the production.
At present, there is an approximate US$ 210 billion valued knitwear market globally whereas in the fiscal year 2018-19Bangladesh exported
only US$16.89 billion valued knitwear. In this sense, Bangladesh knitwear sector has immense possibilities and opportunities to grasp the big
share of the global knitwear market. To make this happen in reality, Bangladesh knitwear sector needs to be restructured with cutting edge
machinery, recently developed equipment, and cost effective raw materials such as fabric and yearn, dyes, pigment and environment
friendly chemical so on.
I would like to congratulate, Redcarpet365 Ltd. for organizing the 5thBangladesh Intentional Garment & Textile Machinery Exhibition –
BIGTEX 2019 scheduled to be held from 7 to 10 November 2019 at ICCB, Dhaka. Targeting the RMG industry of Bangladesh, there isan
arrangement of more than 3 concurrent exhibitions under one platform, named as Bangladesh Int’l Fabric & Yarn Expo, Bangladesh Int’l
Printing, Packaging & Signage Expo& Bangladesh Int’l Dyes, Pigments, and Chemicals Expo at the enterprise level. I am hopeful that this
expo will surely help our entrepreneurs to be introduced with the cutting edge machinery, equipment, raw materials and other production
accessories and bring their production efficiency with increasing competiveness which leads to raising the volume of export as well.
Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA) is proudly involving as an ‘Associate Partner’ with BIGTEX & guiding
them to promote the Knitting Industry of Bangladesh.

7. Testimonials from Industry Leaders
Engr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman, CIP
President – The Institution of Textile Engineers & Technologists (ITET), Bangladesh
Managing Director, HAMS Group of Industries
I believe, BIGTEX-2019 (Bangladesh International Garment & Textile Machinery Exhibition), organized by Redcarpet365 Ltd., will help Local & Foreign
Manufacturers, Dealers & Suppliers to showcase their products, whereas Bangladeshi Garment & Textile Factory Owners & Apparel Exporters can be
benefitted as well.
What local apparel sector needs right now is a support from the government policies and the focus should be on developing new product base, which
will lead the fastest growing industry to achieve a $50 billion export target by 2021. Now we need to focus more on value-added items & new Markets
for export, along with increased employment of local skilled employees from Bangladesh. This kind of collaboration is very important for Bangladesh
to reach to the optimum goal.
I am sure such exhibitions will play an important role to demonstrate the latest type of machineries, technologies, dyes/chemicals, yarns, fabrics & will
provide an opportunity for our experts, engineers & technicians to have practical knowledge of the recent technological advancements available and
that also, without going abroad.
I am very much delighted to be the part of 5th edition of BIGTEX 2019 organized by Redcarpet365 Ltd. Targeting the entire Textile, Garment &
Apparel industry of Bangladesh, they have 3 more concurrent exhibitions Bangladesh Int’l Print, Pack & Sign Expo, Bangladesh Int’l Fabric & Yarn
Expo & Bangladesh Int’l Dyes, Pigments and Chemicals Expo, that will run from 7 to 10 November 2019, at ICCB, Dhaka.
Well Thread a concern of Well Group is participating in this expo as Powered by Partner & creates important role in the betterment of this
industry. Well Thread is the first local brand of industrial Sewing Thread in Bangladesh produced under integrated production facilities such as
SPINNING, TWISTING, DYEING, LUBRICATING & CONING. 40000 spindles of spinning units, supported by Japan origin Nara DX8 drawing, Murata
L-166 Auto coner and Murata two-for-one twisting machines, Schlafhorst PPWS soft winders can produce about 600 MT of 100% spun polyester
yarn of sewing Thread in different counts per month.
The increase of duty on Chinese imports by India; the trade war between China and the US may both help exports from Bangladesh and bringing
new investments to Bangladesh.
I congratulate, Redcarpet365 Ltd for organizing BIGTEX – Bangladesh’s International exhibition on Garment & Textile Machinery/ Printing &
Packaging Machinery / Yarn & Fabric / Dyes & Chemical, held from 07 to 10 Nov 2019 at ICCB, Dhaka.
Garments Accessories & Packaging Industry of Bangladesh, the backward linkage industry of RMG sector, earned US$ 7.15 billion during FY
2018-19. If this sector gets policy support and cooperation from government, the earning should likely to be increased up to US$ 12 billion by
the end of 2021. Total investment of this sector is about US$ 36 billion & value addition is near about 40 percent. I believe, this expo will help
local & foreign manufacturer, dealers & suppliers to showcase their products, where Bangladeshi Garment & Textile Factory Owners &
Apparel Exporters can get in touch with them.
I am sure these exhibitions will play an important role with the latest machineries, technologies, dyes / chemicals, yarns, fabrics, trims &
accessories available for Bangladesh. These Exhibitions will also provide an opportunity to our experts, engineers & technicians in the field
of textile to have practical knowledge on recent available technological advancements without going abroad.

held on Saturday, November 08, 2019 at Hall 1 of
International Convention City Bashundhara, ICCB
20. Mr. Faruque Hassan thinks, it’s time to discuss about present and future scenario of our
textile and readymade garment sector. During last 20 years, very few new improved
and value added products have been introduced, though we are in good pace of
business track. Only 1-2% of raw cotton, basic core material of garments is produced in
our country, rests are imported from other countries. In this condition still we are in
2nd largest garments exporters country. Our industry is always facing challenges, now
those challenges has turned into crisis. In this situation industry 4.0 revolution is very
much important to mitigate those crises. In order to create new market industrialists,
technical persons, textile engineers, all have to prioritize new product design research
and development. Coming out from basic product we must focus on special products
like geo textile, industrial textile combining with jute products. Use of man-made fiber
can help to improve our negative growth condition. Incentives for manmade fiber
based product can take our industry export just as for cotton from 700 million $ to 6
billion $. Without Govt. support and ethical fair price from buyer, it would be tough to
sustain new factories and as well as our garments industry.

International Convention City Bashundhara, ICCB‘Challenges’ in RMG is now turning into ‘Crisis’
21. Engr. Md. Shafiqur Rahman said, Textile industry- the highest contributor to our
economy is now at low ebb and textile leaders are tensed about ongoing huge factory
shutdown incidents. Decreasing of sales volume relative to high production volume is
the main cause of factory shut down. Diversified product launching, usage of manmade
fibre, prioritizing small industry and skilled manpower can be the ultimate solution to
overcome this tough situation. He believes, Bangladeshi entrepreneur are highly
talented to adapt with any sustainability issue very firstly. Engagement of Government
initiative can help the industry more to sustain. Already Govt. has established more
than 40 textile institution comprising of B.Sc. and Diploma education. He urged to
Government for ensuring quality education with updated curriculum and adequate
research scope. He also raised his voice assuring proper honor for the Textile Engineers
and stands for CADRE facility in Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).

22. Mr. Ismail disclosed his concern regarding crucial moments our industry passing at
present. “We must realize the global impact of Industry 4.0 as a nation & also as an
industry leader. If we fail to understand it then our industry can be shifted to other
countries undoubtedly” said Mr. Ismail. During last 8 years in Europe per garments cost
decreased almost 17% just by adopting industry 4.0 & using technological advancement.
Artificial intelligence (AI) gives compound effect and makes big data navigation which
makes panic in our industry. But our industry already has started moving with new
terms. Few years ago our country was highest purchase destination by 47% buyers.
According to 2019 report result has been declined. So the situation comes to a
conclusion that buyers are thinking, it’s not about offshoring, not about nearshoring,
it’s about on shoring. He expressed some responsibilities from technical head,
marketing head and knowledgeable society to help industry by supporting knowledge.
Otherwise not only industrialists but also whole society will suffer a lot.

23. Mr. Rashid shared his experience, when a company from other country make business
plan with Bangladesh, they fear thinking, “they would get right product at a right time
or not”. It happens because of our image crisis. He said, Global companies like SGS
Bangladesh Ltd. whose core activity is to ensure foreign buyer right manufacture from
our country so that they will get right product at right time can play strong role to
develop our industry image. Being concern and Liable to our textile society. Mr. Rashid
offered the opportunity to visit SGS modern testing Lab and some free training course
on global textile testing procedure for textile students from different universities who
are studying textile engineering all over the country.

24. Dr. Mahbubul Haque said automation is spreading all over the industry, but it doesn’t
mean we need no workers. In this case he inspirits nothing to fear. Industry can’t be
imagined without human workers. We obviously need more human but now highly
skilled with technological and technical knowledge. He forced in his speech to focus on
spinning & weaving and producing our own skilled expert to make the industry more
sustainable. In universities there must be introduced latest technological improvement
