The board authorizes the placement of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in schools and other facilities to provide assistance to those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. The superintendent is authorized to acquire AEDs and develop an AED program that complies with state and federal law and trains personnel in AED and CPR use. The superintendent will consult medical professionals to develop procedures for the AED program, including device oversight, training, coordination with emergency services, and device maintenance. The board aims to provide a healthy environment but cannot guarantee an AED or trained user will always be available.
