ON GAS
5 helpful tips to keep your tank and
your wallet full.

2. KEEPING THE TANK FULL
One of the most
frustrating things in
the world is starting
your car and finding
out your tank is on
empty. With the
average gas price in
Connecticut over $4 a
gallon, it is becoming
increasingly expensive
to fill up your tank.
That is why I have five
tips to help keep the
money in your wallet Photo Credit: Flickr user Mirka23
and not at the Mobil
station.
3. 1. CARPOOL
Whether you’re going
to work, going to
class or going to a
party, carpooling to
an event is a great
way to save gas and
money. By sharing
rides and alternating
which car you and
your friends take, will
save you from
draining your tank.

some gas money.
4. 2. USE YOUR SMARTPHONE
Nowadays, who doesn’t
have a smartphone?
Whether you have an
iPhone, Droid or
something else, there
are plenty of apps out
there to help you save
at the pump. Apps like
Around Me, Gas Buddy
and AAA Triplite can
help you find the
cheapest gas in town.

5. 3. LIMIT YOUR IDLING
When the car is running,
you are burning gas.
Whether you are warming
your car or you just ran
inside to grab something,
each minute the car is
running is less time you
can spend driving. Also if
you are going to be leaving
your car running for more
than a minute, it costs less
gas to restart your engine
than it does to keep it
running. Your wallet will
thank you and so will Photo Credit: Flickr user Smohundro

You are not a race car driver and your 1998 Ford Taurus station wagon
is not a Ferrari. “Jack rabbit starts” and breaking quickly are fast ways
to empty your tank. According to a study done by Edmunds.com,
stopping gradually at a red light and accelerating slowly at a green
light reduced a Land Rover’s gas consumption by more than 35
percent and a Ford Mustang’s consumption by more than 27 percent.

5. RIDE A BIKE
Finally, what better way to save gas than to not drive a car.
Instead of driving five minutes down the street to see your
friend, why not take your bike. It is an obvious way to save
on gas and a great way to get some exercise.
