There are misconceptions and misunderstandings of what a virtual Test-Dev environment offers; even more so when determining how to get there. Management and control are at the top of the list. Through this presentation we will discuss:
• The current asymmetrical state of DevOps
• How to achieve symmetry within DevOps
• The Impact of having greater control over DevOps’s environmentals
• DevOps’s automation
• How to pull off DevOps in a hybrid cloud environment

2. INTRODUCTION
Picture a perfect world where your enterprise
can seamlessly interconnect Dev, test and
other environments, both locally and
distributed, at machine and data levels.
Developers can fence their Test-Dev networks
to be isolated and confidently secure. No
longer forced to use fragmented data sets and
configurations due to constrained storage
resources – bringing applications to market
are virtually seamless since they are fully
replicated in the Test-Dev environment. And to
top it off, businesses have the equipment,
storage real estate and staff to cover it at a
cost that improves the bottom lines. In the real
world today, most companies are not like the
picture above.

4. DEFINITIONS
DevOps – This is a software development method that is based on the idea of
collaboration, cooperation, and communication between a team of software
developers and other arms of an IT organization within an enterprise.
Asymmetry – Something that is comprised of unequal parts, having no
balance, and uneven in distribution.
5. 01
THE CURRENT
ASYMMETRICAL
STATE IN
DEVELOPMENT
OPERATIONS (AKA
"DEVOPS")
So what is the goal of DevOps? This is a bit of
many-headed hydra but for now, we are going to
cull this down to the simplest concept of why we
are in business: to make money. How does DevOps
help us accomplish this simple but lofty goal? It
begins by getting products to market faster with
fewer issues to have to fix.
6. In order to do this, the following has to happen:
This seems pretty straightforward except that DevOps teams
find themselves in a constant state of flux due to the
environment they work in: an asymmetric environment.
The Asymmetric environment is:
Deployment frequency must be improved.
There has to be a lower failure rate in new releases.
The time between fixes has to be reduced.
Faster mean time to recovery when things go wrong.
Substandard, disparate networks leaving the high probability
that defects will be found during live production.
Having a lag time between production data needed and data
actually received.
Having a SDLC that is always a few revisions behind of what
should be current.
Money lost due to lack of attention DevOps needs in order to
streamline production.
7. DevOps should be managed as an asset for the business – not viewed as a place
to reduce to scale. Emulating DevOps environments safely and efficiently is
complex, but it’s vital to successful production. Maximizing efficiency,
predictability, security, and the operational processes have to be maintained.
What we are looking for are continuous flows, automation, and tight feedback
loops. It also helps when the DevOps team is both self-reliant and self-confidant.
8. 02 HOW TO ACHIEVE
SYMMETRY WITHIN
DEVOPS
So how do you get a symmetric environment when you
don’t have the money for another build out? How do you
achieve a symmetric environment when all you have
time for is to “code for the exceptions” and hope for the
best when it’s time for the rollout? Moving from an
asymmetric to symmetric environment takes planning
and expertise. Typically, DevOps teams either don’t have
the time to take on such a huge project nor do they have
the sophistication and expertise in-house to execute it.
Because of these two large factors, Net3 Technology has
developed Symmetry DevOps ™ powered by Palmetto
Virtual Data Center (PvDC) to streamline dev to
production and improve business practices.
9. Symmetry DevOps ™ is a development method that is
specifically designed to complement and enhance existing SDLC
(Software/System Development Lifecycle) practices where they
exist, and provide a robust and scalable platform where nothing
exists currently.
With Symmetry DevOps ™, the entire production environment is
replicated or cloned. This means:
Identical production settings/configurations while maintaining
logical separation for Dev/Test/etc. needs.
Data and configuration can easily flow from one environment
to another, maintaining quality and consistency in all
environments through out the process.
Developer productivity is enhanced by removing need to code
for separate environments that are not in production.
Easily automate the controlled flow of data/configurations
from environment to environment.
10. Wrapping these processes in PvDC allows the SDLC to be in
continuous flow. Information from each DevOps group is synced
much more rapidly and completely than ever before, which
provides more opportunity for maximizing cooperation between
groups.
Symmetry DevOps ™ Benefits include:
Consistent build process resulting in simplified approach and
the reduced possibility for human error.
Better management and control over environments
(Operating Systems, Patch levels between development
phases, computing, network).
Achieve automation for rapid deployment and delta change
between each deployment phase.
Reduced time for build deployments for all environments.
Increased code reliability in all environments.
11. 03
THE IMPACT OF
HAVING GREATER
CONTROL OVER
DEVOPS’
ENVIRONMENTALS
Don’t let the status-quo fool you to think that Cloud
DevOps’ management and control is out of your hands.
With Symmetry DevOps™ you have the ability to take
control and be more productive, organized and
efficient like never before.
12. Here are the Top 10 reasons why more control with Symmetry
DevOps™ is Empowering
On-demand access with PvDc’s DevOps app
Automization tailored to your business needs
Complex data efficiently and effectively organized to your
liking
Enhanced maintainability of Operational Processes
Predictive Capabilities
More frequent production deployments
Faster deployment lead times
Lower failure rates
Faster restoration and sync times
Control over security

AUTOMATION:
CONSISTENT,
CONTINUOUS AND
CONSTANT
Without the symmetric environment, Test-Dev is very
convoluted. It’s disjointed. With coding for the
exceptions as the rule, the full System Development
Life Cycle (SDLC) is disjointed as well. It takes a lot of
time and energy to run applications through an
asymmetric environment with all its bits and pieces.
14. Symmetry DevOps™ however, makes things much easier and
smoother when it comes to running and testing applications in
the Test-Dev environment. Automation within Symmetry
DevOps™ provides:
Symmetry DevOps provides opportunities for businesses to
focus on enhancing their production. Less time is dedicated to
fixing bugs and putting out fires, which means more time can be
spent focusing on business impacting dev decisions.
Symmetry DevOps™ makes it all possible. Net3 Technology is
dedicated to having high performance professionals walk you
through exactly what you want and need when it comes to
implementing your Test-Dev environment in the cloud.
CONSISTENCY
HIGHER WORK LOAD CAPABILITIES
OPPORTUNITY FOR ENHANCING PRODUCTION
15. HOW TO PULL
OFF DEVOPS IN
A HYBRID
ENVIRONMENT
05 We have seen Symmetry
DevOps™ and it’s benefits from
a bird’s eye view. Now it’s time
to get down to the details and
make that decision of whether
or not moving your DevOps to
a hybrid cloud is worth
doing. Not all Clouds are built
equal and not all applications
are ready to move to the
Cloud, so how do you decide?
16. The consultative approach that N3T provides is truly a partnership where you’re
not left hanging dry once the check has cleared. N3T built from scratch
Symmetry DevOps™ so that every customer can build the unique cloud
environment they need. N3T also works with multiple technology companies who
integrate with Symmetry DevOps™ for successful hybrid deployments. We
emphasize the white glove approach because we feel it is the best way to go if
you want a successful cloud implementation.
17. Bottom line: Price, quality, and service are all factors that go into our decision-
making process whether we realize it or not and N3T’s Symmetry DevOps™ hits
the mark on all three. N3T is ahead of the curve with its innovative technology,
qualified engineers and developers with years of service supporting the sales
team. We leave no room for your move to the cloud to fail. Visit
