Sarah Parcak grew up loving to find things at the seashore like sand dollars. This grew into a passion for archaeology and finding buried cities from satellite imagery. She shares an example of finding the ancient Egyptian city of Itjtawy using infrared imagery. Working with Egyptian scientists, they were able to map the landscape and find stone walls and foundations underground, confirming it was an important city during Egypt's Middle Kingdom period around 2000 BC. Sarah is excited that her work is helping to uncover more of Egypt's history and empowering young Egyptians.
