EXPECTATIONS:
When you want to learn, I believe having the right attitude is most important. Know that I spend many hours to
make your lessons and be respectful. Know that your classmates want the same things in life as you...happiness,
friendship, success. Be kind. Know that you yourself are here because you are intelligent and hard working. Respect
yourself and your future too.
I believe deeply in the concept of Hominis Dignitati, 「人間の尊厳のため」and in the Golden Rule- “Do unto
others as you would have them do unto you.” 「あなたが人にしてもらいたいようにあなたも人にしなさい」.
 I hope while
you are at Nanzan, you will take time to explore, really, what those words mean.
Our school has a powerful reputation as an excellent university. Our reputation grew because your older sempai
understood the kind of things I have been writing about. They knew how to lift up themselves and each other. I
look forward to seeing you continue their great tradition. I hope you never forget that you are standing on their
shoulders. It’s your responsibility now.
