5 methods to make gradient glass
Gradient glass,is part of privacy glass,applied in shower doors,conference rooms,glass partitions to
protect users’ privacy,the gradient glass also decorate your office or house,here we introduce 5 methods
to produce gradient glass,their advantages and disadvantages during production.including silk
screen,digitally printed glass,UV printed glass,PET film EVA laminated glass,and gradient films.
1. Silk screen glass
For most glass factories, silk screen glass can only print dots or small squares from bigger to smaller
ones to create the gradient effect.

Advantage:
A.Low costs, compared with normal clear tempered glass,the extra costs is just USD6-8/SQM silk
screen fees.
B.Easy production,silk screen,or ceramic frit production is easy.
C.Monolithic glass can be applied both interiors and exteriors,the screen dots is combined with glass
permanently on glass,no fading,the inks and prints are same lifetime as glass itself.
The printed dots or squares are not big enough,small printing coverage cannot protect the privacy very
well,there’s still large transparent areas.

printing solutions,glass factories can print whatever patterns they want on glass surface to make
achieve the unique glass appearance.
Gradient glass produced with digital printing machine is much better than silk screen process.but it has
many disadvantages:
A.Low production efficiency. Because of the limitation of machine,the daily output of digitally printed
glass is 100-200 sqm per day.
B.High cost.As the huge machine investment and low production efficiency,unit price of digitally printed
glass is several times higher than that of silk screen glass.Unit printing costs is USD30-50/SQM.

Morn don’t suggest to use digitally printed glass for your gradient glass requirement,instead if complex
patterns of images are wanted on glass,digitally printing is perfect.
3. Gradient PET laminated glass
Gradient laminated glass now is the most popular and most widely used glass in the market now.It’s a
kind of EVA laminated glass with a gradient PET film laminated inside.
The gradient effect is achieved by the PET films,during the laminating process,EVA film is melt and
combine the PET film with glass.
Advantages:
A.Mature technology. EVA ,PVB,SGP laminated glass are currently 3 main laminated glass types,the
EVA laminated glass production technology is quite mature ,quality can be ensured.
B.Compared with monolithic glass,laminated glass safety is much higher,it can also block UV and
prevent furniture,cloth fading after years lighting.

Disadvantages:
A.High price,compared with monolithic glass,laminated glass price is always 2-3 times that of monolithic
gradient glass.
B.The glass can only been used interiors.EVA interlayer has high fluidity,once the temperature
increase,EVA film will be melt,bonding strength will decrease significantly.Even though EVA film that is
suitable for outdoor application is developed,its performance is still far away from PVB interlayer.
C.Limited specifications.The gradient sizes and regulations are fixed,customers cannot customize their
unique patterns if the quantity is small.
4. UV printed glass
Different from high temperature digitally printed glass ,UV printed glass is low temperature digitally
printing on glass.The printing process must be on post tempered glass.
The costs is much lower than digitally printed glass, printing effect is quite excellent and sometimes
even better ,but as it’s low temperature,the color will fade with time,and cannot be used in
outdoors.Meanwhile,as the color fastness is bad,it’s suggested to make the UV printed glass into
laminated glass,thus overall costs is even higher than digitally printed glass.
The UV printed glass is only recommended in interior decoration.

5. Gradient film.
If you want to change already installed clear glass to have gradient effect,while replacing them is quite
risky and expensive,gradient film is perfect and most simple option for you.
The gradient film can be stick directly on glass surface without replacing the glass.

The PET film thickness varies from 0.3um to 2mm,customers has many options to select,whether it’s
pure white ,translucent,the patterns are also flexible and customers can decide whatever patterns they
want.Once the film is no longer useful,people can easily remove it and change to another pattern.
One more advantage of the film is,the company or shop logo can be engraved on the film and build
reputation,the easy DIY installation also makes it preferred by most users.

The lifetime of the film are only 2-3 years,so customers will have to replace them..
