This document highlights four influential women in Plan's history. Esme Odgers was an early champion of child sponsorship and liaison between children and sponsors. Katharine Marjory Ramsay was a humanitarian who sparked the idea of protecting children during the Spanish Civil War. Edna Blue worked tirelessly recruiting sponsors and support for Plan in its early days, eventually becoming its executive chairperson. Gloria Matthews joined Plan as a secretary in 1941 and expanded its global reach before becoming the first international executive director in 1954.
