Online Safety 
Meeting
Hours of Service 
• Hours of service continues to be the biggest safety violation 
our drivers are contending with daily. 
• Please make sure you have your previous 7 days with you at all 
times. 
• Keep your record of duty status current to the last change of 
duty. 
• Make sure you are getting your required 30 minute break in 
and logged. 
• Obey the 11-hour and 14-hour rule.
Recap/Monthly 
Summary 
• Enforcement officers may ask to look at your recaps and 
monthly summary sheets. 
• In calculating a recap, you may put “0” in for days you did 
work if they are before your 34 hour restart in order to make 
your totals come out correctly. 
• You cannot be cited for the information you enter on the 
recaps. 
• Barber Trucking does not require you to use a recap/summary 
however we do encourage it if it is helpful for you personally.
Out of Service Violations 
• Violating the basic driving or on-duty regulations 
• Not having logs when required 
• Falsifying logs 
• Being ill or fatigued 
• If you have been placed “OOS” and you ignore it and leave it 
carries a severity of 10 in the CSA points system. It also can 
lead to disqualification and fines when the in house audit is 
performed by DOT. Just because the officer has left the 
roadside inspection that inspection is still subject to fines and 
penalties to the driver and company for 1 year after the 
inspection.
Roadside Inspections 
• Your roadside inspection must be turned in to the office!!! 
You can not hide it, it will show up on our report that is 
reviewed bi-monthly and can cause a disciplinary action against 
you as the driver for not following procedure. 
• As soon as your inspection is completed call it in to the office. 
You can report to your dispatcher, HR, Safety, or Operations 
Manager. 
• If you will not be at a terminal within 24 hours you will need 
to fax it in at the soonest time possible. 
• We only have 15 days to get them evaluated and returned to 
the issuing state.
Seized Log 
• If you have a log seized by an officer: 
1. You must prepare a second original log to replace it, 
2. Make a note on the second one that the original was taken 
by an officer, 
3. Note the reason it was taken by the officer.
Rest Period 
• Telephone calls to and from the motor carrier during a rest 
period are not considered to interrupt the rest of a driver so it 
does not break the off duty period. 
• A driver that is required to access a communication system 
repeatedly for the purpose of reading messages from a carrier 
is considered working and must be recorded as such.

392.7(a) Pre-trip Inspection 
• No commercial motor vehicle shall be driven unless the driver is 
satisfied that the following parts and accessories are in good 
working order, nor shall any driver fail to use or make use of such 
parts and accessories when and as needed: 
• Service brakes, including trailer brake connections. 
• Parking (hand) brake. 
• Steering mechanism. 
• Lighting devices and reflectors. 
• Tires. 
• Horn. 
• Windshield wiper or wipers. 
• Rear-vision mirror or mirrors. 
• Coupling devices. 
A driver is not required to prepare a written report of a pre-trip 
inspection!!!!!!!
396.11(a)(1) Post-trip Inspection 
• Report required. Every motor carrier shall require its drivers to report, and every 
driver shall prepare a report in writing at the completion of each days work on 
each vehicle operated, except for intermodal equipment tendered by an 
intermodal equipment provider. The report shall cover at least the following 
parts and accessories: 
• Service brakes including trailer brake connections 
• Parking brake 
• Steering mechanism 
• Lighting devices and reflectors 
• Tires 
• Horn 
• Windshield wipers 
• Rear vision mirrors 
• Coupling devices 
• Wheels and rims 
• Emergency equipment 
• Barber Trucking requires both a Pre-trip and Post-trip inspection with the post-trip 
being in writing.
