The Ladder of Divine Ascent was written in the seventh century by John Climacus, an abbot of St. Catherine’s Monastery at the foot of Mt. Sinai in the deserts of Egypt, which still houses monks to this very day. Tradition holds that it is built on Mt Horeb where Moses encountered the burning bush and later received the Ten Commandments. St Catherine’s monastery is the oldest continually occupied monastery in the world. The buildings of the monastery are surrounded by fortress walls built by Emperor Justinian. They preserve an ancient letter of protection from Mohammed himself, guaranteeing their safety.
St John Climacus composed the Ladder of Divine Ascent, a guidebook for beginning monks on how to live the monastic life. The Ladder of Divine Ascent consists of thirty rungs, one for each year of the life of Jesus before he started His ministry on Earth. This is not a book to sample, skim or skip through, or to criticize. If you do not want to lead a godly life, or repent and begin your life anew, if you do not want to lead a life of daily repentance, it would be better for you to put the book back and not even crack the binding.
Do not think that just because you are not a monastic that you cannot climb the ladder. Leading a godly life, leading a Christian life, is a monastic calling, whether you decide to become a monk or nun or not. Marriage, work, career, school, child rearing, these are all monastic callings. If you think only of yourself and your selfish pleasures of the moment, you cannot successfully climb any of these ladders.
St John Climacus joined the community at St Catherine’s monastery, located in the mountains of the Sinai desert.

The world is changing quickly and technology is the tool that is being used more and more to connect with employees, family members and customers. This presentation was done at the American Farm Bureau Federation's annual convention in Seattle, WA -January 2010.
We can no longer ignore it- and it doesn't have to be overwhelming. Whether you take the first step getting signed up for a Facebook account to connect with family members or you use a mobile phone or video camera to take pictures of your business to share, educate and engage customers, it's important to at least take ONE STEP. Remember version 1.0 is better than version 0.0--what are you waiting for?

Catch the Vision
“Moving Forward Together”
Where there is No Vision the People Perish...Proverbs 29:18Where there is No Vision the People Perish...Proverbs 29:18
2. Each year LBU trains hundreds of both undergraduate and
graduate students. Many of those under graduates are young
pastors that are bi-vocational or are pastors of small churches
and cannot attend expensive on-campus seminaries.
Globally, our INSTEP program works with missionaries to establish
tuition free Bible Institutes in third world countries. We now have
36 schools in 25 countries. Hundreds of national pastors are
being trained that, without INSTEP, would never be able to
acquire a college degree.
LBU has a robust Prison Ministry working with inmates incarcerated
in prisons across America. Several are now out of prison and
serving in local churches, while others are teaching Bible classes
and witnessing while still in prison.
LBU is also providing training to hundreds of Hispanic students
in America, Mexico and several South American countries. LBU
is one of very few schools that offer full degrees in the Hispanic
language.

GOD’S BLESSING
Over the last 15 years, we have
revised our curriculum, acquired a first
class staff, expanded and increased
our degree programs, bought and
developed a new campus, and
established the University as a well-
respected and well-recognized school.
3. For four decades, it has been our privilege to train thousands of
pastors, missionaries, Christian educators, and business people
who now, literally serve around the world in many nations and
cultures.
Louisiana Baptist University is a Bible-Centered University. Every
program and every degree is centered around the Word of
God. Every program is designed with the intent to better prepare
our students to effectively minister the Word of God whether it
be in the pulpit, in the classroom, in a counseling center or as a
CEO of either a for-profit or non-profit organization
In some ways, LBU is reminiscent of an era when virtually all Bible
colleges stressed preaching, soul-winning, and church planting.
Our priorities are not political correctness, religious diversity, or
teaching coping skills. Our goal is to train up an end-time army
of ministers, Christian educators, and laypersons that will spread
the gospel, confront the culture, and impact the world for Christ.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to impact the
world by providing excellent and
affordable Christian education.

4. We believe that a school like LBU/LBTS is important. We
believe that you do too. Our vision and our goals are great.
But this can only happen with God’s blessing and your help. This
is your opportunity to join a cause that is worthy of your support.
While others look to the past, we are committed to build a
modern 21st
century university. The message never changes,
but methods do. Louisiana Baptist University is committed to
make ministry training available to God called men and women
around the world.
Your gift will position Louisiana Baptist University and Seminary
to grow at an accelerated pace. Remember that your gift not
only benefits the university, but you are investing in the ministry
and lives of those students that are going to make an impact
for Christ.

OUR VISION
VISION STATEMENT
To honor the Lord by equipping and inspiring
Christians with the educational skills necessary to
fulfill the Great Commission.
5. FIVE YEAR GOAL
GOAL ONE Eliminate all debt in five years. This will
save the university over $85,000 per
year in mortgage payments and tens
of thousands in interest.
GOAL TWO Reach an enrollment of 2,000 students
(separate from INSTEP and Prisoner
program)
GOAL THREE 100 INSTEP schools in 40 countries.
GOAL FOUR 100 enrolled inmates in our prisoner
program.
OUR GOALS
5
We believe it is important to set goals. Goals challenge
us and help us to monitor our progress. Goals should
be challenging, but also realistic. The following goals
are certainly challenging, but can be obtained. They will
require the participation of our Alumni and friends.
6. www.lbu.edu
OUR CHALLENGE
During this vision challenge every member of
the LBU/LBTS family will be encouraged to give
a gift in a capitol program that will position
Louisiana Baptist University and Seminary to
continue to grow at an accelerated pace.
Individuals, churches and businesses driven by a
burden for the lost are invited to partner with us
in this challenge.
INCOME WILL BE USED AS FOLLOWS:
$50,000 debt retirement
$25,000 to sustain and grow INSTEP
$25,000 improve technology – expand our
marketing – general improvements
to the university and various
ministry projects including the
prisoner program.
OUR GOAL
May 2014 – May 2015
100 thousand dollars
We all like to invest our hard earned dollars in things that make a
difference. Your investment in LBU/LBTS will help to train ministers, plant
churches and win souls around the world.
7. WHAT SHOULD
I GIVE?
7
That is a question that only you can
answer. We would not attempt to tell
you how much that you should give. We
only ask you to pray about it and do as
God directs. God always has the right
answer. When we do as God directs,
we can always count on Him to provide
the means to fulfill our commitment.
Whether it is a substantial one-time gift
or a smaller monthly commitment, every
contribution is important.
Accrediting agencies recommended
that institutions have a 40% donor base
and will not accredit a school with less
than 20% of their income coming from
donors. LBU has continued to grow
with only a 5% donor base. Even
though we are not currently seeking
accreditation, we are committed to
reach that 20% threshold.
