1. Recruitment refers to the process of attracting, screening, and selecting qualified people
for a job at an organization or firm. For some components of the recruitment process, mid- and
large-size organizations often retain professional recruiters or outsource some of the process to
recruitment agencies.
The recruitment industry has five main types of agencies: employment agencies,
recruitment websites and job search engines, "headhunters" for executive and professional
recruitment, niche agencies which specialize in a particular area of staffing, or employer
branding strategy and in-house recruitment. The stages in recruitment include sourcing
candidates by advertising or other methods, and screening and selecting potential candidates
using tests or interviews.
There are process in which recruitment undergoes through. The proper start to a
recruitment effort is to perform a job analysis -- to document the actual or intended requirement
of the job to be performed. This information is captured in a job description and provides the
recruitment effort with the boundaries and objectives of the search. Sourcing is the second step
which involves advertising: a common part of the recruiting process, often encompassing
multiple media, such as the Internet, general newspapers, job ad newspapers, professional
publications, window advertisements, job centers, and campus graduate recruitment programs;
and recruiting research, which is the proactive identification of relevant talent who may not
respond to job postings and other recruitment advertising methods. Screening and selection is
another step in recruitment which refers to get the people who are suitable for a job and is done
by typically assessment by looking for skills, e.g. communication, typing, and computer
skills."Onboarding" is a term which describes the process of helping new employees become
productive members of an organization. It is the last step in recruitment.
Proper recruitment, therefore, is very important in an organization in order to acquire
good quality staff and a harmonious working environment. Recruitment done in an improper
manner could lead to unsuccessful and unsatisfied goals of an organization because the people
who are recruited are the building blocks to the success of the operations of the company.
Unqualified people could affect the standard procedures and the performance of other employees
in the company. It is also important for a company to follow the procedures done in a recruitment
process so that they will attain proper recruitment and maintain company standards. Through this
2. they can select, if not the best, qualified people that can greatly help in the success of the
operations of the company. Recruitment doesn’t only pertain to acquiring people who have good
skills and abilities in their assigned jobs, but also getting people who have pleasing personalities,
are easy to supervise and help in the building of a healthy working environment.
Working conditions refers to the working environment and to the non-pay aspects of an
employee’s terms and conditions of employment. Working conditions not only include the
environment of the place, but also includes the people around or the ‘co-workers’.
An employee/simple worker would really dream to have the best working environment
and benefits to any company he/she willing to apply. Like the character Donna, she did her very
best to be an employee to the company she ever dreamt. Even though she had a job but still she
was looking for the best. She wanted it because of all the benefits she could receive that other
companies don’t offer. Being in a pleasing working place, an employee would be motivated to
work harder to stay long in the company in which that time loyalty to the company is developed.
Working conditions is also 1 of the reasons why people apply a job at a particular company.
Each company should consider a good working environment, good pay, offer promotion
if possible and benefits to their employees so that all employees will be willing to work and are
motivated. Like the film shown by the group on the Google Company, it was a very good
example on how people are motivated to work. Everyone works their best for a fast and good
quality output to their company. Everyone who is working there loves their job so much that
they never wanted to leave the company. Many wanted to apply in the Google Company and
many are dying to be part of it.
Therefore, good working condition to companies and businesses (small or big) should be
one of the priorities to achieve the best output of each employee or worker. Lastly, good working
condition helps open clean opportunities for promotion.
Briefly, promotion is the advancement of an employee's rank or position in an
organizational hierarchy system. Promotion may be an employee's reward for good performance.
Before a company promotes an employee to a particular position it ensures that the person is able
to handle the added responsibilities by screening the employee with interviews and tests and
giving them training or on-the-job experience. A promotion can involve advancement in terms of
designation, salary and benefits, and in some organizations the type of job activities may change
a great deal. This is one of the things why employees are motivated to do their best on their
3. designated jobs. If there is no promotion in an organization, the tendency is that people are going
to be discourage to work and leave the job.
(Case)
Cebu Metal Corporation vs. Saliling
The case presented was about employees (Saliling, Bolido, Alquiza, Amparado)
complaining on low wages given by the employer (Cebu Metal Corporation). The employees
hired do the unloading of scrap metals and are seasonal workers since the delivery of scrap metal
has no regular schedule in which sometimes the company doesn’t know when the trucks arrive
unless notified. In this case, the company won because the complainants were irregular workers
and so therefore they cannot complain about increasing their wages and demand benefits from
the company. We could suggest that the workers should have talked to the employers on making
them regular employees before they demanded increases in their wages or made contracts. If the
company doesn’t want to grant these circumstances that the employees demand then they should
have left the company and search for another job which offer just salary and benefits.
