The Census Bureau's mission is to serve as the leading source of quality data about the nation's people and economy. Policy analysts, program managers, budget analysts, and Congressional staff use American Housing Survey (AHS) data to monitor housing supply and demand, conditions, and costs to assess needs. Analyses advise executive and legislative branches on housing policy development. The Department of Housing and Urban Development uses AHS to improve efficiency, effectiveness and design appropriate housing programs. Academic researchers and private organizations also use AHS data for specific interests.
