This white paper summarizes a survey of employee attitudes and benefits of automatic enrollment programs for 401(k) retirement plans. The major findings show that 73% of employees view automatic enrollment plans favorably or neutrally. Lower-income employees benefit most from automatic enrollment. The study also found that automatic enrollment plans lead to much better retirement outcomes for lower-paid workers, replacing over 50% of pre-retirement income compared to only 23% for plans without automatic enrollment.
