This document summarizes the work of Going Green for a Living Community Land Trust Ltd (GGFAL) in Newtown, Wales from 2011-2022. 2018 Newtown Town Council supported GGFAL in a Lottery
bid. ‘A small working group will be needed to act as
‘champions’ and take responsibility’.
2019 - Asset transfer from Powys CC > Newtown Town
Council Lease > sublet to Open Newtown
2011 Residents highlighted importance of the green spaces.
‘I Love Newtown' consultation
2015 Powys County Council (PCC) agreed to fund a
Community Led Action Plan project in Newtown (2015), led
by consultants from Resources for Change.
The ‘Newtown Community Action Plan Nov 2015 – Oct
2020’ created with most residents saying they made use of
green spaces frequently and that they were ‘extremely
important’
Wishing to protect and enhance the open spaces Newtown
Town Council led a call for action, enabling the community to
come together
Successful Lottery funding £1.15m = Staff and projects
We have five years to invest this and are using this
money to also match fund for future funding opportunities.
