Periodontitis is defined as interdental clinical attachment loss (CAL) of at least 2 mm at two or more non-adjacent teeth, or buccal/oral CAL of at least 3 mm with pocketing of at least 3 mm at two or more teeth. Exceptions include CAL caused by trauma, caries, extraction sites, endodontic lesions draining at the margin, or vertical root fractures.
