The Rankine cycle uses steam to generate power through expansion in a turbine and condensation in a condenser. Vapor expands in the turbine, then condenses in the condenser where waste heat is transferred to the atmosphere or a water source. The pressure-volume diagram shows the cycle from vapor to liquid and back to vapor.
