Good evening and hope you are enjoying you time. Before talking about my small non profit organization, I would like to thank Prathumna, Rishi & Roshni from the UTSAV committee for allowing to address such a wonderful audience. I would be taking only 3 minutes of your time to explain what we do. If you have any questions or comments, they are not welcome ;) [Pointing to the 30df logo] So If I would have to explain 30df.org or 30$Finance is just 3 words, those would be “Empowering rural entrepreneurs”. So, what we do is something what Robin Hood does for a living – “robbing from the rich and giving to the poor” [Expecting audience to burst out laughing] The only difference between Robin Hood and 30df is that we are much more sophisticated. We wear jeans and a blazer, and politely ask for small investments And pass those on to rural entrepreneurs in India? So how do we do this? And why should I steal the money that you have in your wallet? [Change Slide]
The answer is Microfinance. You must have heard and read about a thousand times, “A picture is worth a thousand words” . Lots of thousands in that sentence. This picture I have up here is more than a thousand words. It’s a million dreams and just one word – Microfinance. [Pointing to Rural Entrepreneur] She is a woman entrepreneur. And like most entrepreneurs on wall street who have the Federal Reserve or Warren Buffet for getting loans (a.k.a bailing them out), she does not have access to banks. She gets loans from Landlords and money lenders At a very high interest rate (around 60 -80%) [Pointing to Social Entrepreneurs, 30df.org and MICROFINANCE] This is us. I know this is not how I look (pointing to vikram akula). What we do is Provide loans (pointing to MICROFINANCE) at a small interest rates. And we get these loans from you. Always keep in mind that we are Robin Hood. [Pointing to Field Officers] These are field officers. Since we are here in the United States and cant be at two places at the same time, our field partner Helps us disburse loans to these rural entrepreneurs. [CHANGE SLIDE]
