LEARN FROM YOGI HOW TO PUNISH
CRIMINALS: BJP MP TO GEHLOT
New Delhi (ANI):
Bharatiya Janata Par-
ty (BJP) Rajya Sabha
MP from Rajasthan,
Ram Kumar Verma, on
Thursday slammed
Chief Minister Ashok
Gehlot over the Dausa
gang-rape and murder
of women and said
that the law and order
situation is worst in
the state while sug-
gesting that the gov-
ernment should use
bulldozers on crimi-
nals, like CM Yogi
does, and not on tem-
ples. “The condition of
Rajasthan is deplora-
ble. The incident of
gang rape in Dausa
with the 32-year-old
woman is shameful,”
Verma said.
He also issued a piece
of advice to Gehlot to
take a cue from Yogi
Adityanath.
“If you want to use a
bulldozer, then run it on
the criminals. The way
Yogi ji run a bulldozer
on criminals and mafi-
as, the government of
Rajasthan should learn
from him and run bull-
dozers on criminals
rather than on temple
in Alwar,” he said.

The country is brac-

BLACKOUTS
LEADS TO POWER
Extreme heatwave, hours-long
powercuts to stretch into early May
CANCELLED 42 TRAINS MAKE WAY
FOR COAL TRANSPORTATION
Some 42 passenger trains have been cancelled
across India to allow faster movement of coal
carriages to tackle
critically low stocks
at power plants in the
middle of blackouts and
outages in many states.
These trains have been
cancelled indefinitely,
Railways officials said
today, with coal stocks depleting rapidly in thermal
power plants. The Railways is trying to take steps
“at war-footing” to transport coal and also cut down
the time it takes to move coal to power plants.
DELHI GOVT WARNS OF METRO,
HOSPITAL SERVICES DISRUPTION
The Delhi government on Thursday warned of a
possible power disruption at crucial establishments,
including metro and
hospitals. The warning
stemmed from an in-
creasing coal shortage.
Delhi Power Minister
Satyendar Jain has now
written to the Union gov-
ernment urging it to
ensure adequate coal supply to power plants
that provide electricity to the national
capital. Jain said, “The govern-
ment is trying to ensure
that people do not face
power outage”.
SEVERAL STATES HIT
BY ACUTE SHORTAGE
n PUNJAB: Farmers’ body Kisan Mazdoor
Sangharsh Committee staged a protest in
Amritsar on Friday in front of the house of the
power minister accusing him of not ensuring
adequate electricity supply to the farming
sector. Punjab power minister Harbhajan Singh
said that driven by the rising temperature, the
demand for electricity shot up by 40 per cent
compared to the corresponding period of last
year.
n ODISHA: The Orissa High Court was apprised
that the ongoing coal crisis of aluminium
major NALCO has been resolved following
a discussion among the stakeholders con-
cerned. The High Court, which on April 25 had
directed three Union secretaries (mines, coal,
and power), and the Chairman of the Railway
Board to sit together, in virtual or hybrid mode,
with the chairman-cum-managing directors of
the MCL and NALCO to find a way within 24
hours for resolving the crisis so that NALCO’s
smelter plant at Angul and its Alumina refinery
at Damanjodi were not pushed to the brink of a
shutdown, was informed about the outcome of
the discussion
n UTTAR PRADESH: Amidst the shortage of coal
in thermal power stations, the power crisis
may deepen in the densely populated state of
Uttar Pradesh as only one-fourth of the coal
stock is left in the state, which is way below
the required level. Sources said in the first
fortnight of April, the demand for electricity in-
creased due to scorching heat. The coal crisis
in the state-owned Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut
Utpadan Nigam continues as only 26 percent
of the coal that should be in stock is left.
n OTHER STATES: In Andhra Pradesh, Maha-
rashtra, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Haryana, there
are powercuts ranging from 3 to 8.7 per cent.
Semiconductors consumption

billion by 2026, says PM Modi
New Delhi (ANI): Hail-
ing India for being an
attractive investment
destination for semicon-
ductor technologies,
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi on Friday said
the country’s own con-
sumption of semicon-
ductors is expected to
cross $80 billion by 2026
and may touch $110 bil-
lion by 2030.
PM Modi said that
the country is building
a digital infrastructure
to connect over 1.3 bil-
lion citizens.
“We are using digital
technology to trans-
form lives in all sectors
of governance from
health and welfare to
inclusion and empow-
erment,” PM Modi said
while virtually inaugu-
rating the three-day
Semicon India Confer-
ence-2022 in Bengaluru.
The Prime Minister
said that with steps like
connecting six hundred
thousand villages with
broadband investment
in developing capabili-
ties in 5G, IoT, and clean
energy technologies,
India is paving the way
to lead the next technol-
ogy revolution.
Zelenskyy: Russian troops came

Kyiv: Ukraine’s Presi-
dent Volodymyr Zelen-
skyy said in a recent
interview that Russian
troops came very close
to capturing him and
his family
. He made the
revelation while speak-
ing to Time magazine,
while recalling the in-
tense early days of the
Ukraine war.
Russian President
Vladimir Putin an-
nounced the invasion
on February 24, and
Zelenskyy recalled from
the memories that exist
“in a fragmented way”
what happened that day
.
One of the most vivid
memories, the Presi-
dent said in the inter-
view, is he and his wife
Olena Zelenska waking
up their 17-year-old
daughter and 9-year-old
son to tell them that the
bombing had begun.
“It was loud. There
were explosions over
there,” Zelenskyy said.
Soon it became ap-
parent that Zelenskyy
was a target and presi-
dential offices were not
the safest place to be.
The President said he
was informed that a
Russian strike teams
had parachuted into
Kyiv to kill or capture
him and his family

GOVT TO ‘WEAVE’ NEW FUTURE
OF SILK INDUSTRY IN KASHI
Varanasi (PTI): The
state of UP is soon go-
ing to have its Silk Ex-
change in Hindu pil-
grimage city of Vara-
nasi, the centre of a
famed silk-weaving in-
dustry. The silk ex-
change is expected to
facilitate the ready
availability of silk to
traders and sari manu-
facturers at reasonable
prices.
At the same time, the
government is also
working towards open-
ing the Karnataka Silk
Marketing Board
(KSMB) office at the
Silk Exchange to make
available raw silk
reeled in the State to
weavers making
Banarasi sarees in Ut-
tar Pradesh.
The silk exchange
will check the smug-
gling of silk in the re-
gion and lead to lower-
ing of costs for the silk
traders and manufac-
turing units.
Working in the
same direction, the
government will also
connect weavers of the
area with Silk Ex-
change in the next six
months. While the de-
partment will also
work on the digitiza-
tion of silk exchange
under the ODOP
scheme.
Once the silk ex-
change becomes oper-
ational, the weavers,
yarn making units and
silk exchange will be
brought to a single
platform through digi-
tization. This will also
make availability of a
single platform for
sale and display of fin-
ished silk products of
weavers.

Govt to check smuggling of silk; promote silk weavers in the state
WHAT IS SILK EXCHANGE
In order to facilitate the marketing of raw silk pro-
duced within the State, the govt is setting up the
Silk Exchange. The reelers of Uwill bring the silk
produced by them to the Silk Exchange for sale.
All the silk lots brought this way will be first tested
for quality and then the floor price of each silk lot
will be fixed based on the average silk price in the
state and the quality of the particular lot. Then the
silk lots are put up for auction. The exchange en-
sures spot payment to the reelers. The operations
of the Silk Exchange will stabilise the silk reeling
industry and encourage more investment in the
reeling industry by private entrepreneurs.

Lucknow: A potent
combination of swel-
tering summer and
acute coal shortage has
triggered power outag-
es and undeclared
blackouts in many
parts of the State.
Uttar Pradesh has a
3,000 MW deficit.
Against the demand of
around 23,000 MW, the
supply is just 20,000
MW, resulting in load
shedding in rural areas
and smaller towns.
And the crisis likely
may worsen during the
monsoon when the coal
supplies fall short an-
nually due to rain and
floods that disrupt
mining and transporta-
tion.
Uttar Pradesh Power
Corporation Ltd (UP-
PCL) chairman M
Devraj said thermal
plants were unable to
maintain the coal
stocks as per the
norms. But he main-
tained it was not affect-
ing power production.
“...we are making all
efforts to maintain the
coal inventory as per
the norms by bringing
coal by road also to
avoid delays often
caused when coal is
transported by rail.”
According to the
data made available by
the state power depart-
ment, at present, elec-
tricity is being sup-
plied in rural areas on
an average of 15 hours
7 minutes against the
scheduled 18 hours.
Similarly, electricity is
being supplied on an
average of 19 hours 3
minutes against the
scheduled 21 hours 30
minutes in tehsil head-
quarters.
However, 24 hours of
electricity is being pro-
vided at district head-
quarters. SP President
Akhilesh Yadav hit out
at the BJP government
in UP for failing to pro-
vide sufficient electric-
ity
.
The government
claims to provide 18
to 20 hours of power
in rural areas while
only 4 hours of elec-
tricity is being made
available and there is a
blackout all night in
many places.

karram has given call to
the Muslim community
not to celebrate Eid be-
causeof theatrocitiesof

Addressing a Khutba
(sermon) during the
prayer at the Fatehpuri

pressed deep anguish
and concern over the
atrocities on the Muslim
community and demoli-
tion of a portion of
mosqueinJehangirpuri.
Pointing out that reli-
gious places of other
communitywerespared,
the administration only
targeted the mosque and
houses of Muslims.
The cleric, whose vid-
eo message has gone vi-
ral on social media, said
ruling party had crossed
all the limits of atroci-
tiesonthecommunityas
the reports coming from
various parts of the
country indicated the
plight of Muslims. He
said the central govern-
ment had done nothing
to ameliorate the suffer-
ings of the community
.
The cleric said few days
back some people came
to him to known about
the distribution of
clothes to the poor peo-

how we can celebrate

ALIGARH PROF
SAYS SUCH CALL
IS UNWARRANTED
However, Forum for
Muslim Studies and

headed by Prof Jasim
Mohammad criticised
Mufti Mohammad
Mukarram’s call. FMSA
is a forum of Muslim
scholars and thought
provocateurs. The
FMSA believes any such
move is unwarranted
and creates divisions in
society. Eid is a time of
celebrations, love and
forgiveness. By stopping
Muslims to celebrate
Eid, Mufti instills fear
and otherness in the
minds of people, it said.

MAYAWATI WANTS
TO BE CM AGAIN
BUT REALISING
THE DREAM
WILL BE TOUGH
ne can always dream
and dream big. So
there’s nothing
wrong in Bahujan Sa-
maj Party president
Mayawati dreaming of once
again becoming the chief minis-
ter of UP and then the prime
minister. If only it was possible
to realise her dream in the face
of odds which are stacked
against her! From 19 seats her
party won in 2017, the BSP was
reduced to just one seat in 2022.
Mayawati wants to rise like a
phoenix when she dreams of be-
coming the chief minister again.
Mayawati has been the chief
minister of Uttar Pradesh on
four different occasions. Start-
ing under Kanshiram’s tutelage,
the BSP stuck to its core vote
bank of Dalits, mainly Jatavs.
Later her effort to include Brah-
mins, Thakurs and Muslims
also helped the party stay afloat.
The tide began to turn against
her after the I-T raid on her par-
ty office and Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and Amit Shah
began to wean BSP voters. Poli-
tics of UP has changed to
Mayawati’s disadvantage.
O
ast week Prime
Minister Naren-
dra Modi prom-
ised the youth of
Jammu and Kash-
mir a better future unlike
their parents. “You won’t
have to suffer like your par-
ents and grandparents as this
region will write a new chap-
ter of prosperity and develop-
ment in the next 25 years.”
For assimilating Kashmiri
youth in the mainstream our
mindsets have to stop looking
at them from the communal
prism as was done to India’s
ace fast bowler Mohd. Shami
when he went wicketless
against Pakistan in the T20
World Cup. Shami was bru-
tally trolled for his religion
but was stoutly defended by
the team captain Virat Kohli
who called “targeting some-
one for his faith the most pa-
thetic thing to do”. The entire
team rallied around Shami.
In the case of players like
the Jhelum Express Umran
Malik a greater amount of
sensitivity has to be observed.
He has to be treated with re-
spect for his talent and all reli-
gious bigotry has to be kept
aside. Then alone he will feel
part of the Indian team and
India, in case he is selected.
How we treat Umran will en-
courage the lanky 6’3” Basit
Bashir and Sharukh Ahmed
Dar to admire Indian ethos.

The troll army of the Hin-
dutva brigade should not be
allowed to go around con-
demning a player or other
talents from Kashmir on reli-
gious ground. If the PM is
reaching out to them, they
must not scuttle his plans.
Encouraging the Muslim
youth from Kashmir to join
the mainstream is the best
way forward.

in this short time, the conflict
has not only divided the world
but also given rise to fears of
World War III.
EMERGING WORLD
ORDER
The UN was established after
World War II to guide the
world in the right direction.
But it got bogged down in the
battle between two ideologies
in what became the Cold War.
Ukraine may be wake-up call
for the West. To wake up to
therealityof arapidlyemerg-
ing new international order,
driven by national interests.
All the developed coun-
tries have united under the
US banner, against Russia.
They are weaponizing trade
and finance and carefully
scrutinizing arms sales. Rus-
sia has been declared eco-
nomic pariah and all world
trade has been stopped with
Russia. There’s real concern
among Western leaders over
their failure to build a broad-
er coalition against Russia.
India’s neutral
stand has hit
them par-
ticularly
hard.Even
tradition-
al Western
allies like Israel, Saudi Ara-

refused to fall in line. As the
distinctly disjointed global

India has taken a path of principled neutrality. The key reasons
for this stand are old connections, Russian concessions
following oil price spikes, the reliance on Moscow for
60% of military supplies, and the current government’s
resolve. PM NARENDRA MODI’S ‘NATION FIRST’ THEORY
APPLIES TO STRATEGIC INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS, AS
WELL. POTUS has taken a mature stand and stated that
US understands India’s specific needs and neutral stand
due to it’s own compulsions.

New Delhi: In Maha-
rashtra, the controver-
sy involving MP
Navneet Rana and her
MLA husband Ravi
Rana started with the
public recitation of Ha-
numan Chalisa, but
now the matter seems to
be gaining momentum.
After the arrest of both,
many things have start-
ed to come out in open
and new cases are being
expected. It is reported
that the agencies have
got information about
the relationship with
the underworld and
wires are being connect-
ed from a bar in Mum-
bai to a spiritual insti-
tute in Haridwar. How
much truth is there in
these ‘claims’ or is it
merely heresy
, it will be
known after investiga-
tion, but it seems that
the problems of both
are going to increase.
There are also allega-
tions of money launder-
ing but it has to be inves-
tigated by the ED, so
nothing can be said
about that right now.
Sena MP Sanjay Raut
has tweeted and alleged
that MP Navneet Rana
had taken a loan of Rs 80
lakh from Yusuf Lak-
dawala. Keep in mind
that Lakdawala was ar-
rested by the ED in the
money laundering case
and he died in jail. Raut
has said that Lakdawala
had links with Dawood
Ibrahim gang and called
it a matter related to na-
tional security
. Now the
ED and other central
agencies are also under
pressure to investigate
from this aspect. What-
ever happens in the in-
vestigation, but now the
Ranacouple’sdifficulties
may increase. The state
police is also looking for
some new cases which
could lead to trial.
Rana couple’s troubles may increase, substantially!

first priority is to some-

So, he will continue to
give the message that he
is distancing from SP
. It
is thus that he refused to
meet SP MLA Ravidas

meet him in jail. But he
met Congress leader

also met Shivpal Yadav.

On the other hand,
the SP is also not giv-

now. However, the true
color of Azam Khan’s
politics will be known

ED files FIR against Kolkata
Police over ‘forged’ order
Kolkata (Agencies):
The Kolkata Police has
been accused of “for-
gery and fabrication of
a court order” in an FIR
filed by the Enforce-
ment Directorate
against the force.
In 2021, an audio clip,
purportedly of ED offi-
cials discussing the coal
smuggling case against
TrinamoolCongressMP
Abhishek Banerjee, sur-
faced. Mamata Baner-
jee’s nephew had then
filed an FIR against the
agency over the audio
clip. The matter was tak-
en up by a magistrate’s
court in Kolkata.
However, trouble be-
gan when the court
asked for voice samples
of theEDofficersreport-
edly heard in the conten-
tious clip. The Kolkata
Police, which reports to
Mamata Banerjee - Ben-
gal’s Home Minister,
sent the court order to
the ED but allegedly
with certain edits.
Although the court
asked for the voice sam-
ple, it also mentioned an
important aspect - con-
sent. Kolkata’s Alipore
court asked ED officials,
especiallyJointDirector
Kapil Raj, to appear be-
fore the Kolkata Police
and provide voice sam-
ples with their consent.
Kapil Raj is also super-
visingtheinvestigations
in the coal and cattle
smuggling cases in
which Banerjee is under

cial probe agency
.
“The Kolkata Police

was mentioned that a
voice sample can be tak-
en only provided the of-
ficer gives his consent.

Gandhinagar (Agen-

Gujarat is a “laborato-

matters pertaining to
governance and party
organisation.
Nadda, who is on a
day’s visit to the state,
also claimed that the
BJP is the only true na-

become a party of
“brother and sister” and
regionalpartieshavebe-

the BJP). We will imple-

the country. As a party
chief, it is also my re-

ahead this model,” he
told reporters during a

Successful “experi-

Moni Sharma
Ranchi: On papers, the
Bharatiya Janata Party
is an extremely strong
opposition in
Jharkhand with 26
MLAs and ‘all weather
allies’ also in the House.
Despite this, the BJP is
unable to play the role
of a strong and effective
opposition, the reason
is that since the forma-
tion of the Jharkhand
Mukti Morcha-Con-
gress Government in
State at the end of 2019,
the BJP leaders are
waiting for its fall, as
and when. But Con-
gress is finding it diffi-
cult to come back to
power the next time. On
the one hand, even in
the BJP
, most of the sen-
ior leaders are of the
opinion that now there
should be no effort to
form the BJP govern-
ment for two-and-a-half
years. Their intention
is that if the govern-
ment falls, President’s
rule should be imposed
and then mid-term elec-
tions should be held.
But bringing down
the State Government
is not easy either since
the issues, which BJP
leaders think are
enough for the govern-
ment to fall, are in real-
ity not ‘enough’. The
BJP may try to play up
the issue of Chief Min-
ister Hemant Soren
getting a mining license
issued in his own name
or the land bought in
the name of his wife or
his brother’s company
or his media advisor
Abhishek Prasad re-
ceiving mining license;
but will they lead to the
ultimate goal of bring-
ing down the govern-
ment? The alleged cam-
paign of the BJP to
break the Congress to
topple the government
has failed. Now BJP
leaders are hoping to
bring down the govern-
ment on the basis of
internal strife within
the JMM Shibu Soren
family. But all the old
leaders know that the
internal strife in the
Soren family like any
other political family
has been going on for
years and it does not af-
fect party politics.

Ascuffle broke out between

boy from a different community,
and the activists had gone to the
police station to “discuss” the
case, according to police officials.
However, an argument broke out
between them and the police
which escalated, they said. “Some
members of an organisation had
come to the police station to talk
to the case investigation officer. A
few members of the organisation
then engaged in a scuffle with
some policemen. A case was
lodged over the incident, and legal
proceedings are underway,” a
senior police officer said. VHP
media in-charge Rahul Dubey
claimed that some activists,
including senior office-bearers,
were also injured in the scuffle.

Budaun (PTI): An FIR
has been registered
against Samajwadi
Party MLA Ashutosh
Maurya for allegedly
assaulting a power de-
partment employee
and tearing office reg-
ister in Budaun dis-
trict, police said on
Friday.
MLA from the Bisau-
li constituency
Ashutosh Maurya,
when contacted, de-
nied the charges and
said he had gone to the
electricity sub-station
in the night after resi-
dents complained of
an undeclared outage.
According to the po-
lice, the FIR was regis-
tered based on a com-
plaint filed by Bisauli
sub-station operator
(SSO) Abhishek Mish-
ra. Mishra alleged that
the SP MLA reached
the sub-station at 12.30
Thursday night and
asked for the roster
register. The SSO said
in his complaint that
the legislator assault-
ed him and “when
some colleagues made
video of his act, the
MLA snatched their
mobile phones, abused
them and tore the of-
fice register.”
A video of the inci-
dent has gone viral on
social media. Superin-
tendent of Police (Ru-
ral) Siddharth Verma
said that taking cogni-
sance of the com-
plaint and the viral
video, a case has been
registered against SP
MLA Maurya and an-
other person and the
matter is being inves-
tigated.
When contacted,
MLA Maurya categor-
ically denied assault-
ing the SSO. “Locals
complained that power
supply was being di-
verted to a private cold
storage by stopping
the supply to residen-
tial areas, following
which I went to the
substation and asked
for a roster and lock
book, but the employee
there misbehaved with
me,” he said.
“The allegations lev-
elled against me are
baseless. I have given a
complaint about the
whole matter to the po-
lice inspector in the
night itself. The police
inspector is, however,
denying receiving any
complaint,” he added.

currently posted in

IAS Himanshu Gupta
had applied to Central
Government to change
his Odisha cadre on the
ground (husband and
wife) as his wife IPS
Shiva Singh was posted
in UP. The Central gov-
ernment in turn has
sought a No Objection
Certificate (NOC) from
Odisha and Uttar

Gupta’s file is now in
CM’s office for approv-
al, after which Center
would issue its carder
change notification
making the count of 15
IAS officers of 2021
batch increase to 16 in
UP as the Central gov-
ernment has allotted 15
IAS officers in the IAS
2021 batch to UP carder.
IAS Himanshu Gupta

owing to which he de-
cided to prepare for

He got Indian Railway

he again passed UPSC

‘BSP’S VOTE SHARE GONE IN
PORTION TO BJP, SP’
Lucknow: Senior political
analyst Ranjeev says
that a major share of the
10 per cent reduction
in BSP’s vote share has
gone to the BJP, while
some part has also
been received by the
SP. Instead of taking on
the most powerful BJP,
Mayawati is focusing on
getting back the Dalit
voters who have diverted
to the SP. At the same
time, she also wants
to deliver an effective
message to the Muslim
voters that instead of SP,
the support of BSP can
prove to be electorally
beneficial for them. He
also added that in the
coming days, she may
be seen making more
scathing attacks against
the Akhilesh-led party; as
the BSP chief is toiling to
keep herself relevant in
the ‘opposition space’ by
proving her party to be
a more effective option
than the SP.
AZAM POSES TOUGH
CHALLENGE TO AKHILESH
Lucknow: Political experts believe that since
the displeasure of Azam Khan’s
camp, Akhilesh Yadav is facing
the toughest challenge of his
political journey. The Muslim
leadership within the party has
started expressing outrage
openly. Muslim voters, who are
considered to be the core base of
SP, seem to be getting distracted. Realizing this,
Mayawati has adopted an attacking stand against
Akhilesh.

COLOURS
COLOURS ARE EMOTIONS
ARE EMOTIONS
he object of art is not to re-
produce reality, but to cre-
ate a reality of the same
intensity. And it will re-
main the most astonishing
activity of mankind born
outof thestrugglebetween
wisdom and madness, between
dream and reality in our mind. It is
the expression of the most profound
thoughts in the simplest way
.

=Tell us something about your-
self and your art?
I am an artist from Lucknow and
I run an Instagram page: @colours-
byanki. With my artwork and crea-
tivity, I try to connect one's feel-
ings and emotions with colours.
I call myself a budding artist
and have worked with various
influencers, collaborators, and
professionals across the industry
to deliver my best work.
=When did you decide that you
shall take up art as your career?
Back in 2019 while pursuing my
MBA I decided to take my artwork
to a next level. And thereafter, my
art page @coloyrsbyanki came into
existence. And I am proud to say
that there has been so much look-
ing back since then.

=What role does the artist have
in society?
In my opinion, artists give a Col-
ourful perspective to things. We
find colours (happiness) in dull
moments. We express collective
emotions from small objects of
nature. New ideas can be brought
to life and these ideas can lead to
small or large changes in society.

=What does your artwork rep-
resent? Does your art represent
something about you?
Each artwork of mine is a piece of
me, reflecting my true self. My art
is a clear picture of the emotion
and theme.

=What inspires you? What con-
nection do you have to your art?
My hobby and my passion for
paintings drive me each day to-
wards my art studio. I have had a
deep connection with colours ever
since my childhood. Participating
in events, competitions and exhibi-
tions have been my thing. I see art
as my oxygen!

=What do you like to do besides
art?
I like travelling. I have travelled to
places for my education and pro-
fessional commitments. I feel
travelling to different places has
given me a perspective and it
helps me boost my creativity
. I get
inspired by different art works I
see in different cities.

 =Who are your biggest artistic
influences?
I am inspired by the beauty of this
nature. The thought I always have
is to bring this beauty of nature to
paper before it's lost. Hence I keep
painting and inspiring myself to
work hard each day
.

  • 1. LEARN FROM YOGI HOW TO PUNISH CRIMINALS: BJP MP TO GEHLOT New Delhi (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Par- ty (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan, Ram Kumar Verma, on Thursday slammed Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot over the Dausa gang-rape and murder of women and said that the law and order situation is worst in the state while sug- gesting that the gov- ernment should use bulldozers on crimi- nals, like CM Yogi does, and not on tem- ples. “The condition of Rajasthan is deplora- ble. The incident of gang rape in Dausa with the 32-year-old woman is shameful,” Verma said. He also issued a piece of advice to Gehlot to take a cue from Yogi Adityanath. “If you want to use a bulldozer, then run it on the criminals. The way Yogi ji run a bulldozer on criminals and mafi- as, the government of Rajasthan should learn from him and run bull- dozers on criminals rather than on temple in Alwar,” he said. UPministersvisitdistrictsto collect feedback on governance Mathura/Bareilly (PTI): On the direc- tions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, 18 cabinet ministers on Friday toured different districts allotted to them to take feedback on governance. The ministers fanned out to different districts and interacted with of- ficials and people to take stock of the imple- mentation of govern- ment schemes at the grassroots level. Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya visited Mathura, Dy CM Brajesh Pathak visited Varanasi, and cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ went to Bareilly . Maurya held a review meeting with senior officials at the collectorate in Mathu- ra. Another Deputy CM, Brajesh Pathak, took stock of the func- tioning of various gov- ernment departments in Varanasi and in- structed officials that non-functional tube- wells should be re- paired within a day . In Jhansi, Minister for Women’s Welfare, Child Development and Nutrition Baby Rani Maurya held a meeting to review development works and various crime-controlmeasures. He also said that Elec- tronic Voting Machines (EVMs) can have flaws like any other machine, but cannot be tempered. “We faced various courts on several occa- sions, but none of them ever doubted the integ- rity of the election Com- mission,” he added. COALCRISIS New Delhi: India’s se- vere heat waves are ex- pected to stretch into early next month, meaning millions of people will have to en- dure more days of dan- gerous temperatures and hours-long black- outs. The country is brac- ing for temperatures to rise to a record high, according to Mrutyun- jay Mohapatra, head of meteorological depart- ment. The agency is working with states and the government’s disaster management arm to get early warn- ings to those on the ground, he said in an interview in New Del- hi. Thermometerread- ingshavealready reached 46 degrees Celsius (115 de- grees Fahrenheit) in central and northern India, with two months to go before the mon- soon season that typi- cally brings cooling rains. They hit the highest since 1901 last month. The heat has tested power grids as airconditionersrunon full blast and threat- ened wheat crops. Lo- cal authorities are im- plementing action plans to manage health risks and even deaths, Mohapatra said. “Why is it exception- ally warm this year? Theonlyreasonisglob- alwarming,”saidRoxy Mathew Koll, a climate scientist at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology . “We have looked at data for sev- enty years and at the intensity , the number of heatwavesisdirectly in response to global warming.” India is expected to suffer more frequent andintenseheatwaves, extremerainfallander- ratic monsoons in the coming decades as the planet warms, accord- ing to the United Na- tions’Intergovernmen- tal Panel on Climate Change. BLACKOUTS LEADS TO POWER Extreme heatwave, hours-long powercuts to stretch into early May CANCELLED 42 TRAINS MAKE WAY FOR COAL TRANSPORTATION Some 42 passenger trains have been cancelled across India to allow faster movement of coal carriages to tackle critically low stocks at power plants in the middle of blackouts and outages in many states. These trains have been cancelled indefinitely, Railways officials said today, with coal stocks depleting rapidly in thermal power plants. The Railways is trying to take steps “at war-footing” to transport coal and also cut down the time it takes to move coal to power plants. DELHI GOVT WARNS OF METRO, HOSPITAL SERVICES DISRUPTION The Delhi government on Thursday warned of a possible power disruption at crucial establishments, including metro and hospitals. The warning stemmed from an in- creasing coal shortage. Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain has now written to the Union gov- ernment urging it to ensure adequate coal supply to power plants that provide electricity to the national capital. Jain said, “The govern- ment is trying to ensure that people do not face power outage”. Uttar Pradesh has a 3,000 MW deficit. Against the demand of around 23,000 MW, the supply is just 20,000 MW, resulting in load shedding in rural areas and smaller towns. And the crisis likely may worsen during the monsoon when the coal supplies fall short an- nually due to rain and floods that disrupt mining and transporta- tion. Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UP- PCL) chairman M Devraj said thermal plants were unable to maintain the coal stocks as per the norms. But he main- tained it was not affect- ing power production. “...we are making all efforts to maintain the coal inventory as per the norms by bringing coal by road also to avoid delays often caused when coal is transported by rail.” According to the data made available by the state power depart- ment, at present, elec- tricity is being sup- plied in rural areas on an average of 15 hours 7 minutes against the scheduled 18 hours. TOP TWEETS MAYAWATI WANTS TO BE CM AGAIN BUT REALISING THE DREAM WILL BE TOUGH ne can always dream and dream big. So there’s nothing wrong in Bahujan Sa- maj Party president Mayawati dreaming of once again becoming the chief minis- ter of UP and then the prime minister. If only it was possible to realise her dream in the face of odds which are stacked against her! From 19 seats her party won in 2017, the BSP was reduced to just one seat in 2022. Mayawati wants to rise like a phoenix when she dreams of be- coming the chief minister again. Mayawati has been the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh on four different occasions. Start- ing under Kanshiram’s tutelage, the BSP stuck to its core vote bank of Dalits, mainly Jatavs. Later her effort to include Brah- mins, Thakurs and Muslims also helped the party stay afloat. The tide began to turn against her after the I-T raid on her par- ty office and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah began to wean BSP voters. Poli- tics of UP has changed to Mayawati’s disadvantage. O ast week Prime Minister Naren- dra Modi prom- ised the youth of Jammu and Kash- mir a better future unlike their parents. “You won’t have to suffer like your par- ents and grandparents as this region will write a new chap- ter of prosperity and develop- ment in the next 25 years.” For assimilating Kashmiri youth in the mainstream our mindsets have to stop looking at them from the communal prism as was done to India’s ace fast bowler Mohd. Shami when he went wicketless against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. Shami was bru- tally trolled for his religion but was stoutly defended by the team captain Virat Kohli who called “targeting some- one for his faith the most pa- thetic thing to do”. The entire team rallied around Shami. In the case of players like the Jhelum Express Umran Malik a greater amount of sensitivity has to be observed. He has to be treated with re- spect for his talent and all reli- gious bigotry has to be kept aside. Then alone he will feel part of the Indian team and India, in case he is selected. How we treat Umran will en- courage the lanky 6’3” Basit Bashir and Sharukh Ahmed Dar to admire Indian ethos. Bashir, allof 19,isanotherfast bowlerwhoisverypromising. The troll army of the Hin- dutva brigade should not be allowed to go around con- demning a player or other talents from Kashmir on reli- gious ground. Russia is fac- ing logistics problems in the battle- field and the economic sanctions will begin to hurt soon. However, in this short time, the conflict has not only divided the world but also given rise to fears of World War III. EMERGING WORLD ORDER The UN was established after World War II to guide the world in the right direction. But it got bogged down in the battle between two ideologies in what became the Cold War. Ukraine may be wake-up call for the West. To wake up to therealityof arapidlyemerg- ing new international order, driven by national interests. All the developed coun- tries have united under the US banner, against Russia. They are weaponizing trade and finance and carefully scrutinizing arms sales. Rus- sia has been declared eco- nomic pariah and all world trade has been stopped with Russia. There’s real concern among Western leaders over their failure to build a broad- er coalition against Russia. India’s neutral stand has hit them par- ticularly hard.Even tradition- al Western allies like Israel, Saudi Ara- bia, UAE, among others, have refused to fall in line. As the distinctly disjointed global response to the Ukraine war demonstrates, most develop- ing countries would prefer to forge their own path in a global political economy . The Eastern parts of Ukraine and Crimea could be declared Independent with Russia friendly Govts. Russia will agree to phased withdrawal from Ukraine along-with lift- ing of sanctions. There may be regime change in Kyiv, in- spite of all the bravery on so- cial media by Zelensky . A new world order will emerge post Ukraine War, with multi polar dimensions. Regional alliances and super powerswillemergewithcoun- tries like China, India, Japan, Russia and Australia having their own influences. On the economic front, supremacy of dollar as world trading cur- rency will decline and many alternatives of direct trade will emerge. Interdependence on other countries will reduce with PM Modi’s call of ‘ At- manirbhar Bharat’ gaining momentum. After the arrest of both, many things have start- ed to come out in open and new cases are being expected. It is reported that the agencies have got information about the relationship with the underworld and wires are being connect- ed from a bar in Mum- bai to a spiritual insti- tute in Haridwar. How much truth is there in these ‘claims’ or is it merely heresy , it will be known after investiga- tion, but it seems that the problems of both are going to increase. There are also allega- tions of money launder- ing but it has to be inves- tigated by the ED, so nothing can be said about that right now. Sena MP Sanjay Raut has tweeted and alleged that MP Navneet Rana had taken a loan of Rs 80 lakh from Yusuf Lak- dawala. Keep in mind that Lakdawala was ar- rested by the ED in the money laundering case and he died in jail. Raut has said that Lakdawala had links with Dawood Ibrahim gang and called it a matter related to na- tional security . Now the ED and other central agencies are also under pressure to investigate from this aspect. What- ever happens in the in- vestigation, but now the Ranacouple’sdifficulties may increase. In fact, Azam Khan actually believes that that by staying with theSP ,thereisnothingto be gained and now his first priority is to some- how get out of jail. So, he will continue to give the message that he is distancing from SP . It is thus that he refused to meet SP MLA Ravidas Mehrotra, who came to meet him in jail. But he met Congress leader Pramod Krishnam and also met Shivpal Yadav. His son Abdullah Azam welcomedRashtriyaLok Dal leader Jayant Singh to his home. Asaduddin Owaisi’s party has sent an invitation to him to join forces with AIMIM. On the other hand, the SP is also not giv- ing much importance to the developments now. Despite this, the BJP is unable to play the role of a strong and effective opposition, the reason is that since the forma- tion of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Con- gress Government in State at the end of 2019, the BJP leaders are waiting for its fall, as and when. But Con- gress is finding it diffi- cult to come back to power the next time. On the one hand, even in the BJP , most of the sen- ior leaders are of the opinion that now there should be no effort to form the BJP govern- ment for two-and-a-half years. Their intention is that if the govern- ment falls, President’s rule should be imposed and then mid-term elec- tions should be held. But bringing down the State Government is not easy either since the issues, which BJP leaders think are enough for the govern- ment to fall, are in real- ity not ‘enough’. The BJP may try to play up the issue of Chief Min- ister Hemant Soren getting a mining license issued in his own name or the land bought in the name of his wife or his brother’s company or his media advisor Abhishek Prasad re- ceiving mining license; but will they lead to the ultimate goal of bring- ing down the govern- ment? The alleged cam- paign of the BJP to break the Congress to topple the government has failed. Now BJP leaders are hoping to bring down the govern- ment on the basis of internal strife within the JMM Shibu Soren family. But all the old leaders know that the internal strife in the Soren family like any other political family has been going on for years and it does not af- fect party politics. As far as the matter of office of profit against the Chief Minister is concerned, thepartyhas presentedacasewiththe Governor and a reply will also be sent to the ElectionCommissionon behalf of the govern- ment. The mine, which was allotted in the name of the Chief Minister, was already in his name. PROBE ON DARUL ULOOM ADMISSION Mayawati mocks Akhilesh for saying he wanted her to become Prime Mininster Lucknow (PTI): BSP supremo Mayawati on Friday mocked Sama- jwadi Party (SP) pres- ident Akhilesh Ya- dav’s assertion that he wanted her to become the prime minister and wondered how someone who could not fulfil his own dream of becoming the chief minister will manage to realise the aspirations of others. Reacting to Yadav’s statement that he wanted her to become the prime minister and that the SP had forged an alliance with the Bahujan Sa- maj Party (BSP) for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls for this, May- awati, in a tweet in Hindi, said, “When the SP chief could not fulfil his own dream of becoming the chief minister (of UP) even after securing the votes of Muslims and Yadavs and forming an alliance with sev- eral parties, how can he fulfil the dream of others to become the prime minister.” In a related tweet, the for- mer Uttar Pradesh CM wondered how a party that managed to win only five seats in Uttar Pradesh in the last Lok Sabha polls despite stitching up an alliance with the BSP will make her the prime minister. “Therefore, they need to stop making such childish state- ments,” she added. MLA from the Bisau- li constituency Ashutosh Maurya, when contacted, de- nied the charges and said he had gone to the electricity sub-station in the night after resi- dents complained of an undeclared outage. According to the po- lice, the FIR was regis- tered based on a com- plaint filed by Bisauli sub-station operator (SSO) Abhishek Mish- ra. Mishra alleged that the SP MLA reached the sub-station at 12.30 Thursday night and asked for the roster register. The SSO said in his complaint that the legislator assault- ed him and “when some colleagues made video of his act, the MLA snatched their mobile phones, abused them and tore the of- fice register.” A video of the inci- dent has gone viral on social media. Superin- tendent of Police (Ru- ral) Siddharth Verma said that taking cogni- sance of the com- plaint and the viral video, a case has been registered against SP MLA Maurya and an- other person and the matter is being inves- tigated. Instead of taking on the most powerful BJP, Mayawati is focusing on getting back the Dalit voters who have diverted to the SP. At the same time, she also wants to deliver an effective message to the Muslim voters that instead of SP, the support of BSP can prove to be electorally beneficial for them. He also added that in the coming days, she may be seen making more scathing attacks against the Akhilesh-led party; as the BSP chief is toiling to keep herself relevant in the ‘opposition space’ by proving her party to be a more effective option than the SP. AZAM POSES TOUGH CHALLENGE TO AKHILESH Lucknow: Political experts believe that since the displeasure of Azam Khan’s camp, Akhilesh Yadav is facing the toughest challenge of his political journey. The Muslim leadership within the party has started expressing outrage openly. Muslim voters, who are considered to be the core base of SP, seem to be getting distracted. And it will re- main the most astonishing activity of mankind born outof thestrugglebetween wisdom and madness, between dream and reality in our mind. It is the expression of the most profound thoughts in the simplest way .   =Tell us something about your- self and your art?   I am an artist from Lucknow and I run an Instagram page: @colours- byanki. With my artwork and crea- tivity, I try to connect one's feel- ings and emotions with colours. I call myself a budding artist and have worked with various influencers, collaborators, and professionals across the industry to deliver my best work. =When did you decide that you shall take up art as your career?   Back in 2019 while pursuing my MBA I decided to take my artwork to a next level. And thereafter, my art page @coloyrsbyanki came into existence. And I am proud to say that there has been so much look- ing back since then.   =What role does the artist have in society?   In my opinion, artists give a Col- ourful perspective to things. We find colours (happiness) in dull moments. We express collective emotions from small objects of nature. New ideas can be brought to life and these ideas can lead to small or large changes in society.   =What does your artwork rep- resent? Does your art represent something about you?   Each artwork of mine is a piece of me, reflecting my true self. My art is a clear picture of the emotion and theme.   =What inspires you? What con- nection do you have to your art?   My hobby and my passion for paintings drive me each day to- wards my art studio. I have had a deep connection with colours ever since my childhood. Participating in events, competitions and exhibi- tions have been my thing. I see art as my oxygen!   =What do you like to do besides art?  I like travelling. I have travelled to places for my education and pro- fessional commitments. I feel travelling to different places has given me a perspective and it helps me boost my creativity . I get inspired by different art works I see in different cities.     =Who are your biggest artistic influences?   I am inspired by the beauty of this nature. The thought I always have is to bring this beauty of nature to paper before it's lost. Hence I keep painting and inspiring myself to work hard each day .  T UTTKARSHA SHEKHAR cityfirst@firstindia.co.in Reaching goals Ahtesham Siddiqui I AS Ghazal Bhard- waj CDO Rampur recently met with the UP Chief Secre- tary IAS Durga Shankr Mishra and handed over a copy of her new book, The Making of Modern India.
