30 minutes ago DANIEL LEWIS RE: Discussion - Week 5 COLLAPSE Top of Form I have never been the sort of person to actively pursue leadership. If I were elected that was fine and I was organized as to how I liked things taken care of but open to other ways of things being done as long as they were by a certain timeframe so that no one else suffered as a result of one person/groups late submission. I also never preferred to be reliant on others because I tend to be task oriented and able to complete activities quicker without any additional stress or anxiety from other participant’s procrastinating. But enough of my ranting and raving. Per Clifton Strengths my five top strengths were developer, empathy, harmony, adaptability, and connectedness. I do agree that as a developer I can see the potential in others, when an individual is feeling down I tend to want to make them feel better and remind them of the potential I see so blatantly in them. I want to continue to use this attribute and amplify it so that I am able to use it more effectively and be even more effective in lifting the spirits of others so that they are aware that they are useful, valued, appreciated and important. Like the amazing quote from the movie The Help “You is Smart, you is Kind, You is Important.” I believe especially for leaders that we should encourage and uplift our fellow peers. According to (Kathleen Duggan, et al. 2015) investments made can contribute to the overall efficiency and performance, so for each person you invest time and encouragement you have had the opportunity to increase their potential workforce outcome. Another strength that I would like to improve upon is my empathy, the more I put myself in the feelings of someone else the less chance I will have of saying or doing something that could cause emotional harm. I strive to always be a peaceful person and bring that peace into any interaction I am a part of. 1. The relationship between a servant and leadership is paradoxical but achievable. According to Dierendonck & Patterson (2010), “the central meaning of it was that the great leader is first experienced as a servant to others”. This allows an individual to not only work their way from the bottom but learn humility on the way to the top. As they work their way through different stages or hierarchy of a job they learn the value and appreciate it. These individuals will make an impression on others because their driving force is to serve others and are focused on leadership, management service and personal growth (Dierendonck & Patterson, 2010).
2. Servant leadership could be viewed as a paradox because the perception about the two words individually is that they would be opposites. A servant is someone that is at the bottom of the food chain, so to speak. Someone who does not make decisions, but is told what to do and has little to no say in the matter. A leader on the other hand is at the front of the organization. They are someone who makes the decisions and delegates work for others to do. Because individually these two roles are so different someone could find the phrase servant leadership ironic before really sitting down and thinking about what the phrase means as a whole.
3. Servant Leadership on paper is a paradox, yes. While the dictionary definitions of each word of the phrase 'Servant Leader' may seem opposites, when combined into a phrase they are a proven type of leadership, which leads by serving rather than controlling. When acting as a servant leader, one focuses on the needs of others, putting them in a higher regard than your own needs. It is important for a servant leader to have empathy and listen to their team members. A servant leader supports their team, focusing on building and enriching a community rather than just focusing on deadlines and goals. A traditional leader who does not employ a servant leadership lifestyle is often seen as selfish. They view themselves as exclusively then one who's in charge, and do not take advantage of the benefits of active listening to their team or hearing their input. Unfortuantely, often times in this leadership mentality, the credit for ideas that the group comes up with is awarded exclusively to the leader.
In the long term, as servant leadership is highly effective. Servant leadership leads to trust, good relationships, and a good working environment. No one wants to work in an unhealthy work environment or under the leadership of a workplace 'tyrant', so servant leadership increases productivity as well. Currently, I believe I lead a few people at work because I used to do their jobs and I know how to do them best, however, I believe that because of my work ethic and my willingness to help everyone makes me successful in my current position. 3 of 7 secrets from the article" 7 Secrets of Servant Leadership" that will help me be successful going forward after this class include Listening intently and observe closely, demonstrate persistence, hold myself as well as others hold accountable for commitments. Within this class I’ve stated my leaders hear, but do not listen. I need to take my own advice and ensure I listen to make changes when needed. I’ve also complained that the leaders within my organization do not make changes after receiving complaints, instead of giving up so easily, I need to remain persistent to show my colleagues that anyone within the company can perceive and make a difference as Economy (2015) states leaders serve their people. I believe I already do a good job of holding myself accountable (my mother ensured I have too much catholic guilt built in) however, I do not give other the chance to fail or hold others accountable. It is important to allow my colleagues to fail or to ensure they are held accountable because they will learn and grow.

After reviewing the “Tony Robbins Create a New Story” (Hamilton 2013) and after taking this class, I have found that I need to improve my communication skills further as well as continue to step out of my comfort zone and lead from where I am within my organization. I need to improve my communication skills because I am an introvert and have anxiety issues around group functions where others have no issues and actually enjoying and participating in these activities.
To answer the videos question, I’m very happy with life in general. I am in a very supportive and happy marriage, I have a very sweet and happy two-year-old son, I have a job that I don’t hate to go to everyday and generally enjoy the company of many of my co-workers. However, I have failed as a friend, it’s hard for me to keep up with social functions due to my introverted ways. I also am working to make more time for myself, and my body, however I’m 20 weeks pregnant so I’m not going to be able to do anything about that any time soon. I believe I am happy because I have worked toward making my life with what I always wanted it to be. However, one thing I did not achieve in my life “blue print” is obtaining my degree. I’ve noticed that the younger generation has finally caught up with me in education. I put off going back to school for eight years and recently we hired a front desk person that has a bachelor degree. I like to make my friends embolden and powerful and not diminished and powerless. From the responses I got, I can describe myself as a person who is ready to learn. From the experience with all those people, I can clearly see that I have the eager to acquire new things. I believe that the good or bad things we do to people affect their lives more significantly in a way that we may not know. Therefore, I choose to care genuinely for people to ensure positive impact in their lives. I know I have all that it takes to care for a person; it is an inner instinct to do so since it is part of my personality, I call it empathy. I took the recommended Leadership Training and Development report: Values in Action Inventory of Strengths assessment. My values identified from this assessment were as follows: love, fairness, kindness, hope, gratitude, honesty, teamwork, leadership, forgiveness, perseverance, humility, perspective, zest, prudence, creativity, judgement, bravery, curiosity, self-regulation, social intelligence, humor, appreciation of beauty & excellence, love of learning, spirituality. I was surprised and overwhelmed with joy to see love as my number one value. Though I have a ton of love to give, I feel that I have a hard time express my love for others. Knowing that this assessment identified love as a significant strength gives me great strength that even though I don’t recognize my outward display of love, it is received by others. I was also surprised to see love of learning so low on the list. I love to learn new things, I’m just not one to pick up a book and read I would rather learn new things using the hands-on method. It is possible that my inability to identify my out-ward displays of love have clouded my perception on thought of a love to learn. I would have thought that leadership and social intelligence would have been higher on the list. I love to lead and mentor the new airman coming into the military. I’m not surprised at all by spiritual and humor being so low on my list. I’m not very good with making jokes, most people only laugh at me when I am trying to be serious. I am not a religious person therefore spiritual feel right where it should have. After taking this self-examination I will need to learn how to use my strength better rather than using my weaknesses. This test was very eye opening for me and will allow me to become a better leader along the way.
I scored fairly high on all sections of the emotional intelligence self-assessment in chapter 3 of Sterret (2006). I scored a 20 on self-awareness, 22 on self-confidence, 19 on self-control, 19 on empathy, 21 on motivation, and 21 on social competency. The results seem to be in line with what I would have expected. I have been the enlisted leader of a section for the last 6 years and have learned if the person working for you, believes you care about them they tend to work much harder to support your efforts. On the leadership assessment I scored mostly 5 or 4 with a couple 3. I completed one assessment and sent three assessments to airmen that previously worked and currently work for me, all the results were relatively comparable. The fellow airmen were initially not able to identify the links between their strengths and weakness’, as I would hope. I think I scored myself lower than the troops scored me, because I tend to have higher expectations for myself than others. It was nice to see how people that have worked for you grade you when it comes to your leadership. It gives me inspiration that I am actually doing a good job leading the personnel under me.

Sang Nguyen's top five strengths according to their Strengths Quest report are restorative, relator, responsibility, competition, and significance. They agreed that these strengths accurately represent them overall but had some disagreements with parts of the descriptions. They believe they are responsible and competitive but managers said they tend to complain more than solve problems. They enjoyed applying their strengths at their job and in relationships but struggled to use them effectively as manager of their high school store. While their strengths help them succeed, they can also be weaknesses when taken to an extreme, like forcing a friend into unnecessary competition. I find that I am an honest and caring leader who values efficiency. I can project trust to my superiors and my subordinates, I have the gift of project confidence to others, and after I realized this quality in myself I have been trying to master this gift.
I don’t think I had a mentor in my life that influenced the leader I become. The closest was a German Physician with the worst rigid character I’ve ever seen but the nicest person after work, I notice than in general the people who work with him, dislike his behavior but at the same time value his company after work. I notice that his great character for issues beside work, were more valuable for people than working with him, and his temper was tolerable for that.
I had learned more reading about great leaders from history than from mentors. The history of civilization goes around politics and diplomacy and the great business leaders of history as Alexander the great, Napoleon, Lincoln, Roosevelt, JP Morgan, Rockefeller, Tesla, Ford, Steve Jobs and the list may go on. All this great men has influenced my life more than any other human alive.

I have learned more from co-workers and their interactions with subordinates, than from my former bosses. Every one of them has positive management points, but in general I can’t think of any who left such a positive impression that change my style. For the other part I had a great boss, excellent human been who micromanagement everything, the lesson I learned from him was not to do it ever to the people who work for me. I learned how micromanagement neutralizes employee’s intellectual growth; affect the person’s overall emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. Additional to this put more pressure to the leader who overworks for issues that should be delegated.
At the time I was attending for Emergency medicine, I learn from a colleague how, to project calm under pressure make your team confident, efficient, and respectful. I learned from another colleague, how to be human and caring without be taking as a soft boss, in fact he amazed me how been very pleasant at the same time was very strict for work matters.
My managerial style is reflected in how my staff respect me as a boss, they appreciate that I fully support them. I am invited to more meetings that I should be because people enjoy my comments and suggestions, in general people that work with me, appreciate me. I took the recommended Leadership Training and Development report: Values in Action Inventory of Strengths assessment. My values identified from this assessment were as follows: love, fairness, kindness, hope, gratitude, honesty, teamwork, leadership, forgiveness, perseverance, humility, perspective, zest, prudence, creativity, judgement, bravery, curiosity, self-regulation, social intelligence, humor, appreciation of beauty & excellence, love of learning, spirituality. I was surprised and overwhelmed with joy to see love as my number one value. Though I have a ton of love to give, I feel that I have a hard time express my love for others. Knowing that this assessment identified love as a significant strength gives me great strength that even though I don’t recognize my outward display of love, it is received by others. I was also surprised to see love of learning so low on the list. I love to learn new things, I’m just not one to pick up a book and read I would rather learn new things using the hands-on method. It is possible that my inability to identify my out-ward displays of love have clouded my perception on thought of a love to learn. I would have thought that leadership and social intelligence would have been higher on the list. I love to lead and mentor the new airman coming into the military. I’m not surprised at all by spiritual and humor being so low on my list. I’m not very good with making jokes, most people only laugh at me when I am trying to be serious. I am not a religious person therefore spiritual feel right where it should have. After taking this self-examination I will need to learn how to use my strength better rather than using my weaknesses. This test was very eye opening for me and will allow me to become a better leader along the way.
I scored fairly high on all sections of the emotional intelligence self-assessment in chapter 3 of Sterret (2006). I scored a 20 on self-awareness, 22 on self-confidence, 19 on self-control, 19 on empathy, 21 on motivation, and 21 on social competency. The results seem to be in line with what I would have expected. I have been the enlisted leader of a section for the last 6 years and have learned if the person working for you, believes you care about them they tend to work much harder to support your efforts. On the leadership assessment I scored mostly 5 or 4 with a couple 3. I completed one assessment and sent three assessments to airmen that previously worked and currently work for me, all the results were relatively comparable. The fellow airmen were initially not able to identify the links between their strengths and weakness’, as I would hope. I think I scored myself lower than the troops scored me, because I tend to have higher expectations for myself than others. It was nice to see how people that have worked for you grade you when it comes to your leadership. It gives me inspiration that I am actually doing a good job leading the personnel under me.

They agreed that these strengths accurately represent them overall but had some disagreements with parts of the descriptions. Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.

- 1. 30 minutes ago DANIEL LEWIS RE: Discussion - Week 5 COLLAPSE Top of Form I have never been the sort of person to actively pursue leadership. If I were elected that was fine and I was organized as to how I liked things taken care of but open to other ways of things being done as long as they were by a certain timeframe so that no one else suffered as a result of one person/groups late submission. I also never preferred to be reliant on others because I tend to be task oriented and able to complete activities quicker without any additional stress or anxiety from other participant’s procrastinating. But enough of my ranting and raving. Per Clifton Strengths my five top strengths were developer, empathy, harmony, adaptability, and connectedness. I do agree that as a developer I can see the potential in others, when an individual is feeling down I tend to want to make them feel better and remind them of the potential I see so blatantly in them. I want to continue to use this attribute and amplify it so that I am able to use it more effectively and be even more effective in lifting the spirits of others so that they are aware that they are useful, valued, appreciated and important. Like the amazing quote from the movie The Help “You is Smart, you is Kind, You is Important.” I believe especially for leaders that we should encourage and uplift our fellow peers. According to (Kathleen Duggan, et al. 2015) investments made can contribute to the overall efficiency and performance, so for each person you invest time and encouragement you have had the opportunity to increase their potential workforce outcome. Another strength that I would like to improve upon is my empathy, the more I put myself in the feelings of someone
- 2. else the less chance I will have of saying or doing something that could cause emotional harm. I strive to always be a peaceful person and bring that peace into any interaction I am a part of. I have never been a person who judges based on past events or experiences because we all have colorful histories some more colorful than others but that’s what makes each of us unique and special, able to bring something precious and beautiful to the group dynamic. The two core values I would like to work on are servant leadership and responsibility. I believe that as I continue to learn and grow in school and work I will be able to put myself into situations to serve and to contribute. I know when it comes to work I tend to do these but there is always room for improvement. I don’t want to get stale or stagnant. Two of the characteristics that I would like to strengthen are my communication skills because I know at times things I say can be misconstrued and interpreted wrong. The other characteristic I would like to strengthen would be self-motivation. I know in my personal life I lack in that area. I tend to be less motivated in regards to physical health and other aspects of life, at work I’m able to be on task and keep on track but in the last year or so my personal life has taken a downward spiral so I figure if I work on that it can only help to improve upon my current skills I have under tentative control.
