2. Detoxing Turmeric Tea
1 quart boiling water
1-2 tbsp thinly sliced ginger
1 tbsp thinly sliced fresh turmeric
1-2 tsp cumin seeds
1-2 tsp fennel seeds
2 sticks of cinnamon
1 pinch black pepper
1-2 bags (or tablespoons) of green tea
Raw honey to sweeten
Place all the spices in a pot and simmer for 5-7 minutes. Take off heat and strain.
Add the raw honey.
3. Split Pea and Spinach Soup
Ingredients:
3 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup chopped onions
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup dry split peas
2 carrots, diced
7 cups of vegetable/chicken broth
2 cups spinach, chopped
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tbsp coriander, toasted and ground
Salt and pepper to taste
4. Split Pea and Spinach Soup
Directions:
• Heat the oil in a large pot and then add the onions.
• Once they turn slightly pink, add the garlic and let it cook for a minute.
• Put in the split peas, carrots, salt and pepper.
• Combine well with constant stirring.
• Pour in the broth. Cover and cook for 30-40 minutes, till the carrot and peas
turn soft.
• You may need to check the pot after 20 minutes to ensure that there is enough
water.
• Adjust the quantity of liquid as needed.
• Add the spinach and continue cooking for 5 more minutes. Serve with a
portion of rye bread.
5. Asparagus and Baby Carrots with Lemon Sauce
Ingredients:
• 1 bunch of asparagus, about 250 grams, each stalk cut into thirds)
• 200 gms baby carrots, cut into halves lengthwise)
• 1 lemon
• 1 tbsp honey
• A sprig each of cilantro, basil and parsley
• A pinch of dried chili
• A pinch of salt
• 1/2 tsp ginger, chopped
6. Asparagus and Baby Carrots with Lemon Sauce
Directions:
• Steam the asparagus and carrots till they are slightly softer than al
dente but not mushy.
• Lemon Sauce: Juice the lemon. Combine the salt into the honey. Mix in a
blender with the herbs. Puree until smooth in consistency.
