This document summarizes a study that measured physical properties of cores from a 15m borehole in Livingston Island, Antarctica. Thermal conductivity and diffusivity were measured on dry cores and varied between 3.02-3.32 W/mK and 1.42-1.64 x 10-6 m2/s respectively. Porosity was low at 1.1-1.8% and density ranged from 2640-2666 kg/m3. Heat production across the borehole was 1.698 μW/m3. Temperature measurements showed an average annual temperature of -1.76°C with a thermal amplitude of 7.71°C. The cores were composed of sandstone. Physical

The Mobile Open Service Model -MOSM- is a streamlined composite scheme aimed at describing the different components of the Mobile Services Value Chain. To achieve this grand objective, the OSM assign each of these components to Layers. The layered structure count for devising a Macro Model which, abstracts the complex reality surrounding any Mobile Initiative and allow the audience to sift thru all the processes, virtual, physical components and concepts.
The document discusses an automated mentor reporting system for the National Guard Youth Challenge Program that allows mentors to:
1) Log in and update contact information for themselves and their cadets online.
2) Enter reports on whether cadets are on track with goals and have contact with mentors.
3) Saves post-residential advisors time by automating data entry and ensuring more accurate reporting with less errors.
Jeffery Shaw is an Australian artist born in 1944 who studied architecture and art history. Some of his notable works include The Legible City from 1989, where viewers ride a stationary bike through a virtual city made of letters; Disappearance from 1993, featuring a large monitor on a forklift revealing a virtual ballerina; and Virtual Museum from 1991, an interactive virtual museum explored from a rotating platform.
This document discusses several high-speed LAN technologies including Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, 10-Gbps Ethernet, and 100-Gbps Ethernet. It describes the characteristics and advantages of switches over hubs for high-speed networks. Layer 3 switches are able to perform routing at significantly higher speeds than software-based routers. The document also explains why Ethernet remains a popular choice for high-speed networks despite scaling issues with CSMA/CD.
This document discusses e-commerce business models. It defines e-commerce as doing business over the web, such as through sites like Amazon and eBay. E-commerce provides opportunities like increased productivity, expanded markets, and cost reductions. A business model is a firm's plan to create value and generate revenue. Internet business models take advantage of online properties and can be categorized as pure play, clicks-and-mortar, or various forms like brokerage, advertising, and affiliate models. The course will cover five parts on the internet, components/dynamics of business models, competition, applying concepts, and case studies. Students will be assessed through quizzes, group work analyzing cases, and a final exam.
The liver is organized into lobules centered around branches of the hepatic vein. Between the lobules are portal triads containing branches of the bile duct, portal vein, and hepatic artery. Hepatocytes within the lobules perform many metabolic functions. Liver disorders can result from infections, drugs, toxins, ischemia, autoimmune issues, or postoperative issues. Postoperative liver dysfunction may occur without preexisting liver disease due to ischemia or anesthesia and usually resolves, but can worsen preexisting conditions like hepatitis.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help boost feelings of calmness, happiness and focus.

The document discusses several students' experiences with the research process for a class blog assignment.
Natalie expresses frustration with not finding helpful sources from databases and search keywords. However, she appreciates having the blog to get suggestions from others, like Olivia and Prof. Dolson, which helped her make progress past a "research wall".
Kathleen also found value in the blogs, saying it was comforting to discover that others faced similar problems and questions during research. The research process is described as messier than anticipated and involving uncertainty and frustration before sources supporting ideas are discovered.
This document discusses managing information and its strategic importance for business management. It explains that information is useful data that can influence choices and behavior. The strategic importance of information includes gaining first mover advantage by being the first to use new information technology to lower costs or differentiate products from competitors. This can lead to higher profits and market share. Sustaining competitive advantage also depends on using information technology to continuously improve core business functions rather than just having faster computers. For example, Walmart views IT as a competitive advantage that helped lower costs 10% more than competitors like Kmart and Target.
The document outlines the steps of a design thinking workshop held on September 30, 2013 in Hyderabad, India. It describes the 10 steps of the design thinking process that participants will go through: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test, reflect, build, share, gather feedback, and debrief. The workshop will have participants redesign an existing job portal by interviewing each other, capturing needs and insights, sketching solutions, building prototypes, and getting feedback to iterate their designs.
The document discusses several students' experiences with the research process for a class assignment.
Natalie expresses frustration with not finding helpful sources from databases and search keywords. She appreciates how the class blog allowed her to get suggestions from others to break through a "research wall".
Kathleen notes feeling uncertain at first about the class blog, but finding it comforting to discover others face similar problems and questions during research. The research process is messier than anticipated and sounds easier initially than it is in practice.
Good morning america...A brief postlude for 9 11Jose Payano
In the aftermath of September 11, just as I was watching the news I was (that I thought) inspired by the events. I was sad by what was happening at that fateful moment and so I began to write...This is my "Postlude to September 11". Just in case, English is my "second language"!
The document discusses the changing policy landscape around complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) in the United States over the past 50 years. It describes how the 1938 Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act originally tightly regulated CAM products and claims. However, the 1994 Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act significantly weakened the FDA's ability to regulate supplements. The 2000 White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy further promoted CAM. The effect has been to move US policy from actively discouraging CAM to embracing it, driven largely by private industry interests in the commercial CAM market.
