Storytelling as a Facilitation Technology
Storytelling is an effective facilitation tool according to Dr. Joem Antonio. It can make activities seem easier by evoking emotions in the participants. Specifically, stories involve a protagonist overcoming a challenge to obtain a prize. This follows the basic structure of a beginning, escalation of conflict or obstacle, climax, and resolution. By crafting stories this way, facilitators can highlight the value of the activity, the feasibility of completing it, and ways to overcome difficulties. This engages emotions like hope, courage, and joy, which motivate participation and effort.
Media evaluation
Our media product is a thriller that follows many conventions of the genre but introduces some differences, such as building suspense in the opening sequence and then having an anti-climax instead of a dramatic event. The opening sequence incorporates Todorov's theory of equilibrium by beginning with calm, introducing disruption, and ending with a new state of peace. It was influenced by the fast pace of the thriller "Se7en" to build suspense and disorient the audience. The linear narrative structure was used to keep the sequence simple to follow. Based on audience feedback, the opening sequence was largely successful.

Does you first sequence have a beginning (low tension/visual intensity), a middle (climax, high tension/visual intensity) and a short end (low tension/visual intensity)? 2. Have you informed your audience about the following: the time and the location of your story and your protagonist? 3. Are you interested in your character? Will your audience be interested in your character? 4. Have you started your performance with a hook that excites your audience? 5. Is your first sequence ca. 1 minute long? 6. Is your first sequence followed by an inciting incident? 7. Does your inciting incident bring a more intense dynamic to the piece? 8. Is your inciting incident strong enough to involve your audience emotionally into your story? 9. Can your inciting incident be topped by actions leading to a climax (or could it be that your inciting incident is too strong)? 10. Does you second sequence have a beginning (low tension/visual intensity), a middle (climax, high tension/visual intensity) and a short end (low tension/visual intensity)? 11. Is the climax of your second sequence more dynamic and intense than your inciting incident? 12. Does your second sequence show the audience new and more exciting material/information than during your first sequence? 13. Does your second sequence last ca. 1 minute? 14. Can you add 4 more sequences (4min) that will continuously increase the intensity of your piece until a climax will be reached? 15. Is your performance action driven and carried by visuals? You should be able to answer all questions with yes. If not, you need to review the part of your performance that the particular question refers to.
