2FA—MFA? What’s It All
Mean??
Cybersecurity really is no different from every other industry
when it comes to using as many TLA’s* as possible. I want to
try and simplify as much as possible all of the content I provide
to help make protecting yourselves and your children an easier
process.
2FA (2 Factor Authentication), MFA (Multi-Factor Authentica-
tion), 2-Step (two-step verification), two-step authentica-
tion….. The list goes on and you will see some or all of these
used across, different social media platforms, websites, games
consoles, etc.
They are all effectively the same thing though!
In security there are 3 factors of authentication, Something
you know (such as a password) Something you have (such
as a smart card) Something you are (such as a fingerprint or
other biometric method)
2FA means that although a criminal may get hold of your
password, they would also need access to your second form of
authentication, likely to be an app on your mobile phone,
before they can gain access to your protected account.
Hopefully you can see the benefit of having 2FA speaks for
itself, it’s free and it’s simple to setup. Information on how to
setup 2FA for popular social media and
e-mail platforms can be found on my
YouTube channel.
