Participle – a form of a verb form that functions as an adjective
Verb Form: “To run” ---> The running man slipped and fell.
Verb Form: “To baffle” ---> The baffled student learned participles.
3. How to Form and Recognize Participles
Present Participles end in -ing
The smiling girl laughed.
The skipping boy wore red shoes.
The crying baby fell asleep.
Past Participles end in -ed, -en, or -t
The filled glass rested on the table.
The shaken passenger sat down.
The burnt log glowed in the heat.
4. Participles & Participial Phrases
The skipping boy danced in the moonlight.
The boy, skipping along the sidewalk, danced in the moonlight.
The cooked tuna was tastier than the raw tuna.
The tuna, cooked in a skillet, was delicious.
The frozen vegetables were difficult to thaw.
The vegetables, frozen in the cooler, were difficult to thaw.
