Engaging ICON Corridor Safety became mandatory for all staff and contractors from December 2016 to ensure worksite protection arrangements are suitable for the location and type of work. Protection Officers must call ICON Corridor Safety before contacting Signal Box Operations to review their Worksite Protection Plan and receive a Corridor Safety Number. ICON Corridor Safety is available 24/7 and reviews plans, amends any deficiencies, and issues Corridor Safety Numbers that Protection Officers provide to the Signaller.

Engaging ICON Corridor Safety became
mandatory for all staff and contractors
from 14 December 2016.
The process aims to keep our people safe by
ensuring worksite protection arrangements
are suitable for the location and type of work.
If Protection Officers (PO) are planning to
work on track at any time of day, you must
first call ICON Corridor Safety on 1800 444
822 to review your Worksite Protection Plan
(WPP).
This call must be made before you contact
Signal Box Operations.
ICON Corridor Safety is now available 24
hours, 7 days per week.
The 24/7 expansion was approved by the
Executive Team.
What is the process?
PO completes WPP;
PO phones ICON Corridor Safety;
ICON Corridor Safety reviews the WPP;
Any deficiencies are amended;
A Corridor Safety No. (CSN) is issued;
PO provides the CSN to the Signaller.
What type of work is in scope?
All work in the Danger Zone on any tracks that
are maintained by Sydney Trains, including
tracks that are operated by external agencies
(e.g. Pacific National) but are maintained by
Sydney Trains.
What methods of Worksite Protection?
All methods of protection require a CSN:

Work within a shunting yard

How to improve efficiency and avoid delays?
For pre-planned work call ICON Corridor
Safety the day before;
The best time to call is between 11am -
4pm;
Always complete the WPP before calling;
A CSN is not required for work outside the
Danger Zone.

A series of Safety Focus Sessions held in
February 2017 showed that 72% of network
base staff can see the safety benefits of the
review process. Of the 45% of staff
performing after-hours work, 33% had
already used the review process. These are
encouraging results and highlight that the
process is working to improve safety for our
people working on track.
