The key to successful offshore installations -
Understanding the issues of all
stakeholders involved
Expert Interview
To optimise transport and installation for offshore wind, collaboration from the complete
supply-chain is indispensable to simplify complicated interfaces, reduce installation times,
risks and costs. In the end the common goal is to realise a capital intensive project where risk
management is key.
Jan van Rossum, Business Unit Manager Offshore Renewables at GeoSea in Belgium, will
be looking at “Planning and project management from a marine operator perspective” at the
upcoming Transport & Installation Conference for Offshore Wind, and knows how cruicial an
early involvement of all stakeholders is for the success of offshore installations.
Before the event takes place from 28 - 30 April 2015 in Bremen, read the full interview with Jan
van Rossum here!
Interview with Jan van Rossum, Business Unit
Manager Offshore Renewables at GeoSea in
Belgium
www.transportinstallation-offshorewind.com
IQPC: You are responsible for offshore
renewables at GeoSea. Can you give us some
more information of your background and
your main areas of interest?
Jan van Rossum: I have been working for DEME
in the offshore engineering- and more specifically
in the offshore wind industry for about 10 years
now.
I have been involved as Tender Manager, Project
Manager, Project Director and Business Unit
Manager in various challenging T&I and EPCI
projects including foundation works (Gravity
Base Foundations, Jacket foundations and MP/
TP foundations), Inter Array and Export cable
laying works, Offshore Substation works and
wind turbine installation works.
Next to that I’ve also been involved in heavy lift
jack up vessel development and construction.
IQPC: Where – in your opinion - is there the
greatest improvement to be made regarding
the completion of installation projects?
Jan van Rossum: I believe the industry has
already made a good progress on interface
management but I’m convinced that there is still
room for further improvements.
It sounds very common sense but it’s always
easier to resolve problems you know. If you
don’t understand the problems of stakeholders
involved, it becomes hard to resolve them or even
better, turn them into opportunities for everyone
involved.
