DNA is made up of nucleotides that contain a sugar, phosphate, and one of four nitrogenous bases: adenine, thymine, cytosine, or guanine. The sequence of these bases in a person's DNA contains the genetic material to code for different amino acids that combine to form the proteins that make up the body, such as hormones, enzymes, and antibodies.
