Information Technology Internship
COURSE EXPECTATIONS
Each site will provide the intern with a unique learning experience. Overall expectations for the internship
include the following:
TOPICS TO BE COVERED DURING FIELD WORK:
 Orientation and tour of library/school or business building
 Organization of the site library or business and its relationship to any parent agency (school
district, city government, corporate headquarters, etc.)
 Departments within the library or business and their functions
 Employee handbook
 Hiring policies of site library or business
 Job descriptions and duties within the designated department
 Operations, policies and procedures for the designated department
 Tasks and special projects for the designated department as assigned
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE INTERN:
 Regular attendance for field hours as arranged
 Completion of time card for field hours and submission to instructor
 Compliance with site supervisor's job instructions and assignments
 Completion of course web site readings and homework assignments
 Final meeting with site supervisor to review evaluation
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SITE SUPERVISOR:
 Scheduling of intern's hours
 Verification of hours worked
 On-site supervision and training within assigned department(s)
 Periodic contact with instructor (may be via e-mail, telephone, or in-person)
 Completion of evaluation form
 Final meeting with intern to review evaluation
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE INSTRUCTOR:
 Selection and placement of interns
 Collection of internship contracts and student evaluations from sites
 Serve as a resource for interns and site supervisors
 Conduct site interns reviews and site contact via e-mail, telephone, or in-person
 Monitor course web site and discussion tools
 Evaluation of students' overall performance and grade assignment
