Editor's Notes

  • #2 I’ll talk you through the logos and organisations a little more in a moment, but I’ll start by showing you a video
  • #3 My involvement with Girlguiding
  • #4 Lots of answers to this question! I’m talking about Girlguiding in the UK as that’s what I know about. In the video you saw… Rainbows = 4-7 Brownies = 7-10 Guides = 10-14 Rangers = 14-18 So Girlguiding is the different age groups that make it up, known as sections More than 300,000 girls in the UK at the moment - There’s also all the volunteers that make it happen!
  • #5 It’s the history – started in 1909 as The Guide Association Extra age groups added over time – these are Brownies uniforms and Promise badges – I’ll talk about the Promise in a moment
  • #6 It’s being part of an international movement (my Thai neckerchief for example)
  • #7 It’s the badges! (my sash if I can find it!) https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/globalassets/image-library/blog-images/sarah-west.jpeg?preset=image-block_desktop They tell your story within Girlguiding – what you did, who you met, what you learnt
  • #8 Whoever you are, wherever you're from – all girls are welcome  An equal sense of belonging – meet girls from many different backgrounds, and trying to expand that – Girlguiding is for everyone. We’re joined through our Promise – three parts all over the world (Guiding and Scouting), including learning about ourselves. In the UK version: ‘to be true to myself and develop my beliefs’ The trefoil and the Promise sign remind us of this
  • #10 It’s giving girls a voice: Girls speak, then we listen and act Annual ‘Girls’ Attitudes Survey Surveys of girls’ opinions – giving girls and women a voice e.g. Future Girls 76,000 opinions, 4-25 years old Providing resources to make these things happen
  • #11 Girls don't stand still, so neither do we  Constantly evolving 2022 – biggest rebrand for a long time, as we know that the message about Girlguiding is old-fashioned and hasn’t kept up with what we do
  • #12 We help all girls know they can do anything
  • #13 What I’ve got from Girlguiding Confidence, especially at Brownies – in who I am, in trying new things A voice – knowing I could speak up and I would be heard Leadership experience – both as a girl and a woman Learning a lot – still! Meeting all kinds of people A sense of achievement And it helped with my teaching!
  • #14 https://youtu.be/69v3ua7itSo Leave you with a film with something about what Girlguiding is and what girls participating in it do, and how it develops the whole child
