The Workload Divide Between Working Parents and Non-Parents During COVID-19Fairygodboss
In August 2020, Fairygodboss surveyed 400 women employed full-time to learn more about how they're handling workplace and childcare responsibilities during the pandemic. Survey results show that working mothers are a bit reluctant to ask for help, but are still receiving it from colleagues and managers. Working moms with young children also tend to be harder on themselves than moms with older children and women without children. Explore the report to learn more.

Case study: Supporting parents and carers - StocklandFlint Wilkes
Stockland has focused on evolving their parental benefits to meet changing needs. They formed an employee advocacy group to discuss ideas for improving experiences of parents and carers. This led to new flexible leave benefits in 2017, including more paid leave, superannuation during unpaid leave, and a lump sum payment. Stockland also offers on-site childcare, keeping in touch events during leave, and a flexible work culture to support returning and staying with the company. These programs have helped achieve a 90% return to work rate and high employee engagement scores.

It argues that a university degree alone no longer guarantees stable employment. Graduates now must proactively develop skills, network, and prepare for their career while still in school to stand out from other applicants. Merely attending classes is not the same as getting an education - one must continuously learn and adapt to succeed.

The current student believes their educational experience did not adequately prepare them for the real world of work. In school, classes and professors are constantly changing, whereas work provides stability with one boss and schedule. Additionally, no amount of education fully prepares one for the job-specific training required. While some students are happy due to having the right mindset, many are unhappy because they did not take advantage of opportunities. Finding a job was difficult, requiring hundreds of applications with few responses. Experience helped but connections were also important for obtaining prestigious positions. Educational institutions could better simulate having a boss and responsibility, as in the real world employees are replaceable.
The document discusses the position of preschool director and provides information about becoming a director. As a director, one would oversee communication between parents, children, staff, owners, and licensing departments. A director gets to work hands-on with children of all ages and spend time interacting with parents and staff. To become a director, one needs to meet the credential requirements of their state, which usually involve educational courses and experience working in early childhood education. Preschool directors earn a sufficient living, with median annual wages ranging from $39,200 to $70,600 depending on the type of organization.
The document discusses how early childhood programs can improve by taking a more analytical, business-focused approach. It provides examples of how educators can use data analysis to better understand issues like falling enrollment and identify solutions. One example is of a preschool teacher, Jake, who analyzed evaluation and conference data to understand why enrollment was declining in his classroom. He identified themes and considered different solutions to improve the situation. The document also discusses how a center director, Soma, interviewed parents about drop-off and pick-up times and observed behaviors to identify themes, such as parents feeling rushed. She proposed implementing surprise snack bags to help ease transitions. Overall, the document advocates for early childhood educators to take a more analytical, business-savvy

3. The approach aims to change people's psychology around job versus self-employment by enabling them to start small money-making ventures that can then be expanded through replication.

This document provides background on the speaker and their perspective on quality education in South Africa.
1. The speaker has experience working at various levels of the education system, including as a teacher, principal, union representative, and lecturer.
2. They argue that true quality education cannot be achieved until more fundamental issues are addressed. Only 20% of schools are high-functioning, while 50% are low-functioning and 30% are dysfunctional.
3. A three-step approach is proposed: make dysfunctional schools functional; improve low-functioning schools; and strive for excellence in high-functioning schools. The focus should be on equality of access before competitiveness.

Universities do not adequately prepare students for transitioning from school to work. An interview with a university student revealed several issues: students are uncertain about their career path after graduation and lack experience, which leads companies to offer low pay; graduates take any job just to gain experience, even if unrelated to their studies. The student thinks universities should have exchange programs with companies to give students work experience. The problem statement concludes that universities lack programs involving companies to help students transition from school to the workforce.

Tableau
