I presented a 45-minute version of my "TypeScript 101" talk that serves as a short introduction to TypeScript and the benefits it provides to large-scale projects.
This document discusses using Kinect with Windows and Arduino to create a gesture recognition system. Kinect senses gestures which are recognized by a gesture library. The library then triggers actions. It encourages following the #CPBR6 hashtag on social media for a chance to win prizes and provides several URLs for additional resources on Kinect for Windows, robotics, and developing with Microsoft tools.
SC5 and A-Lehdet just launched a responsive and adaptive website for Tuulilasi, the Finnish media authority for tech reviews of cars and other gadgets. This website relies heavily on search engine traffic, so we needed to support server side rendering. On the other hand we really wanted to use a single page app, but we didn't want to duplicate efforts.
This talk shows why the ability to share code between the browser and the server is the best thing since sliced bread. We leveraged this possibility to develop a platform that allows us to run the same application in both environments, ultimately achieving a single page app that also caters to robots.

This document discusses test-driven development (TDD) katas in Magento 2. It introduces the concept of code katas as a way to practice and train skills like athletes do. Specific skills trained in TDD Magento katas include the red-green-refactor process, working with test doubles, separating concerns, and testing Magento development. An example kata is provided to implement a custom "GiftItem" total model that sets prices of free gift items to zero and adjusts the subtotal. The goal is to help developers start practicing TDD with Magento through examples.

This document describes a code kata exercise for practicing test-driven development (TDD) when working with Magento 2. The kata involves test driving the total model for a sample gift item module that adds a free water bottle when a product from a specific attribute set is added to the cart. The goal is to subtract gift item totals from the subtotal and set the price of gift items to zero through TDD and the collect method of the gift item total model. Participants are instructed to check out the starting code and test drive the total model to learn TDD and Magento skills.

Resources for learning Meteor such as its website, documentation, and a book will also be mentioned.
Gutenberg is a new block-based content editor that will replace the current editor interface in WordPress 5.0, scheduled for release on November 19th. The new editor structures all content as blocks that have properties and can provide layout structure. Sites may break or have issues with Gutenberg, especially those using page builders. It is recommended to test sites with Gutenberg before the 5.0 release to identify and address any problems. Plugins are available to disable Gutenberg for sites that need more time before transitioning to the new editor.

[DevDay2018] Javascript on the Rise - By Trang Tran, Co-founder & Manager at ...DevDay.org
There was a time when the word JavaScript reminded developers about form validations or adding animation in web pages. However through time, Javascript has grown to be one of the most popular languages in the development world with its implementation usage in back-end and front-end development. With the rise of Javascript front-end frameworks such as AngularJS, React JS or VueJS, as well as the invention of cross-platform mobile development frameworks such as React Native, Native Script, Javascript once again has proved its popularity and ability to become the most powerful language that truly breaks the platform barrier and allows developers to solve problems in various platforms.

This document summarizes Tom Johnson's presentation on strategies for API documentation. It discusses different types of APIs like platform and REST APIs. For platform APIs, documentation is often generated from source code comments. REST API documentation should cover endpoints, parameters, response formats, and example calls. The document also summarizes a survey of API documentation practices. Popular publishing approaches include single page sites with code samples and interactive documentation. It raises questions for documentation writers around technical skills, interest, and career entry points.

Angular 2 : learn TypeScript already with Angular 1David Amend
TypeScript can be used to add types to JavaScript for better integration with IDEs and refactoring support. It allows defining interfaces to support modular projects and combining client and server models. Key things to know about TypeScript include interfaces, decorators, module support, and ES6 features. There are many benefits to using TypeScript like refactoring support, code exploration, and self-documentation.
A micro frontend architecture is an approach to developing web applications as a composition of small frontend apps. Instead of writing a large monolith frontend application, the application can be broken down into domain-specific micro frontends, which are self-contained and can be developed and deployed independently. Each micro frontend can be owned by verticalised domain specific teams. Micro frontends do have advantages and disadvantages and they are not suitable in many cases. When micro frontends is a potential solution, make sure to use a domain driven top-down approach, with no big design upfronts. Keep it simple!

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
In the rapidly evolving landscape of technologies, XML continues to play a vital role in structuring, storing, and transporting data across diverse systems. The recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) present new methodologies for enhancing XML development workflows, introducing efficiency, automation, and intelligent capabilities. This presentation will outline the scope and perspective of utilizing AI in XML development. The potential benefits and the possible pitfalls will be highlighted, providing a balanced view of the subject.
We will explore the capabilities of AI in understanding XML markup languages and autonomously creating structured XML content. Additionally, we will examine the capacity of AI to enrich plain text with appropriate XML markup. Practical examples and methodological guidelines will be provided to elucidate how AI can be effectively prompted to interpret and generate accurate XML markup.
Further emphasis will be placed on the role of AI in developing XSLT, or schemas such as XSD and Schematron. We will address the techniques and strategies adopted to create prompts for generating code, explaining code, or refactoring the code, and the results achieved.
The discussion will extend to how AI can be used to transform XML content. In particular, the focus will be on the use of AI XPath extension functions in XSLT, Schematron, Schematron Quick Fixes, or for XML content refactoring.
The presentation aims to deliver a comprehensive overview of AI usage in XML development, providing attendees with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions. Whether you’re at the early stages of adopting AI or considering integrating it in advanced XML development, this presentation will cover all levels of expertise.
By highlighting the potential advantages and challenges of integrating AI with XML development tools and languages, the presentation seeks to inspire thoughtful conversation around the future of XML development. We’ll not only delve into the technical aspects of AI-powered XML development but also discuss practical implications and possible future directions.
