Amazon simple queue service
SQS enables applications and distributed components to exchange messages asynchronously. Key features include supporting message bodies up to 64KB, sending/receiving messages in batches of 10, retaining messages in queues for up to 14 days, and secure sharing across AWS accounts. A sample use case demonstrates how SQS, EC2, S3, and SimpleDB can be used together for video transcoding: users submit videos to S3, messages with video pointers are placed in an incoming SQS queue, EC2 instances process videos by retrieving from S3, uploading converted videos to S3, and placing response messages in an outgoing queue, with metadata indexed in SimpleDB. An EC2 instance monitors the incoming queue and scales the number of transcoding

CloudFlare solutions engineer Trey Guinn discusses the nature of DDoS attacks, with a focus on amplification attacks. Easy scalability is a powerful feature of Amazon Aurora. Scalability in its actual definition refers to being able to get larger or smaller depending on the need. Amazon Aurora allows you to easily achieve this by scaling the database instance up or down and adding or removing read replicas. Scaling across regions brings additional resilience to your architectures and could boost your application performance due to geographic proximity. You can perform all of these scaling operations through the Aurora console. You can also automate instance and read scaling using lambda function or scripts based on the usage pattern you define. You can extend the automation by feeding your database usage data from Aurora enhanced monitoring into Machine Learning to provide more sophisticated predictive patterns to drive your automation. In this session we will do a deep dive into how scalability works in Aurora and how to make the best use of it to reduce your cost, increase application performance and architect resilient applications.

- Amazon Aurora is a MySQL and PostgreSQL-compatible relational database built for the cloud that delivers five times the throughput of MySQL at one-tenth the cost. It is optimized for fast storage performance and high availability.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
