CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
• Assessed and edited district reading curriculum for entry into district online curriculum and reporting system, including
preparing individual lessons and novel lists for middle school levels.
• Developed and presented campus-based curriculum to instruct non-English teachers to incorporate and grade writing
assignments into the various subject areas.
• Modified the Journalism 1 curriculum into more interactive units to motivate students within a more involved
environment while still adhering to the state mandated essential elements.
• Researched and presented adapted journalism curricula for new block scheduling primarily concerning the deadline and
timing conflicts with staff issues when block scheduling went into effect. Changes were considered and adopted.
• Co-chaired a committee drafting the proposal for the adoption of honor courses in journalism. Also, involved with
committee writing proposal to state that journalism be included in the listing of fine arts credit courses for graduation.
EDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENTI
• Management of campus state-mandated Accelerated Reading Intervention (ARI) records. Introduced ARI to faculty
through in-service programs. Worked closely with reading teachers to assess and track student progress. Gathered and
synthesized data for delivery to teachers, administration and district for review.
• Supervised implementation of campus PASeries reading instrument. Instructed reading faculty in use of the online test.
Worked with Instructional Technologist to troubleshoot problems with initial testing. Prepared testing data for
administration and reading faculty to determine individual student needs.
• Spearheaded program to implement writing folders on each student to track progress through grades. Folders of writing
samples kept as students pass from grade to grade.
• Reviewed numerous classroom assessment methods and techniques and adopted effective tools that were compliant
with school board and state mandates to be able to effectively track progress of publications staffs in a fair and
equitable manner, instead of summarily assigning blanket grades for attendance or overall effort.
• Commended for exemplary benchmark scores on reading portion of TAKS.
